3RD ANNUAL NORM VOLPONI SHOOT APRIL 25TH & 26TH, 2015
LPRG hosted the third annual Norm Volponi shoot the last week of April.
The shoot consisted of 400 Handicap targets over two days. High Over All
score for the two days went to Cal Harris of LPRG’s CYSSA Shotgun team,
with a score of 379/400. He was followed closely by Carl Weiler, who won
Runner Up with a score of 377/400. LPRG was very happy that Norm and
his family where able to be present for the shoot and spend time at the
club!
HUNTER EDUCATION
Our 4 winter and spring Hunter Education Classes are completed. (Feb,
Mar, Apr, & May). We had a very successful set of classes with a great
student success rate. Our youngest student this year was 9 years old and
our oldest student was 73 years young!
Lorrie, John and Garth mentored a new Hunter Education Instructor,
Jim Tanner. He was a great asset to our classes and hopefully we gave
him a good introduction into teaching Hunter Education. John Ridings will
be holding 2 more classes during late summer: August 7, 8, & 9, 2015 and
September 11, 12, & 13, 2015. He can be reached at (925) 784-0831.
Garth Gelster will be holding 2 Home Study Classes, 4 hour sessions, on
Saturday, November 21, 2015. One class in the morning and another
class in the afternoon. Garth can be reached at (925) 997-2246.
By November 2015, we should have our class dates posted for 2016.

CALIFORNIA WILDLIFE
CASTLE ROCK AREA IN MOUNT DIABLO STATE PARK TO CLOSE FOR FALCON
NESTING SEASON
Castle Rock area will be closed off to visitors from February 1st to July
31 to help protect the Peregrine Falcon during their nesting season. This is
an annual closure, as the Peregrine Falcon is listed as a "Fully Protected
Species" in California. This raptor is territorial and highly sensitive to disturbance during nesting season. Signs and educational panels will be placed
in the area to advise and educate users about the closure. Violators are
subject to penalty by fine. Rock climbers will be encouraged to utilize an
alternate climbing area of the park during the closure. Park Rangers are
now issuing $500 citations for offenders.

In Memory of Niles Solberg
Greg Solberg created a GoFundMe website to raise money for AED’s
(automated external defibrillators) after his father, Niles Solberg,
passed away due to a heart attack while they where at the range.
Due to the tremendous donations, Greg has raised enough funds to
install two AED’s at the Livermore Pleasanton Rod & Gun Club , one at
each range office. In addition, Adams Safety of San Ramon was able to work with
LPRG to provide a CPR & AED Course for our volunteers. We thank Greg for his efforts
and applaud his determination to save future lives by facilitating these changes.

On March 3rd 2015, my father Niles Solberg,
his wife Alice, and I, went to the LPRG rifle
range. Seconds into the second round of livefiring, my father collapsed. I immediately
yelled "call 911" as I caught my father and
placed him on the ground. Checking his responsiveness, breathing, and his pulse, I realized the need to start CPR. A retired nurse
quickly came to my side and we began 2 person CPR. in the midst of CPR I asked if the range had an automated external defibrillator (AED) , unfortunately they did not. We continued CPR, assuring: a clear airway,
assessing, compressions, breaths. 10 minutes later, the ambulance arrived and took
over with their modern lifesaving equipment. Unfortunately, Niles was pronounced
dead at the hospital shortly after arrival 60 minutes later.
This gofundme is in honor of Niles and funds will be used to bring AED's to the gun
club (located in the rural north Livermore hills. I applaud the Livermore Pleasanton
Rod and Gun Club for handling the situation in a calm and professional manner. Due
to the remoteness of the club, an AED at the shotgun range AND the rifle/pistol range
may save someones life in the future.
This GoFundMe's goal is to raise money to: install, facilitate training, and provide
maintenance costs for the upkeep and operation of automated external defibrillators
for Rod and Gun Clubs, and sportsman clubs of the West Coast. located in rural areas, the inherent risk involved in shooting sports makes it a no brainer to place AED's at
these places that are usually underfunded and don't have discretionary income to
provide this modern resource to their patrons. It is better to have it and not need it,
then to need it and not have it.

Fly Fishers’ Silent Auction Helps Raise Funds for Special Projects

Tri-Valley Fly Fishers (TVFF) is a non-profit organization comprised of women
and men from the Tri-Valley, East Bay and Brentwood areas who enjoy the
sport of fly fishing. Membership spans all ages from students to seniors. Besides monthly scheduled fishing trips for the members, the club is deeply committed to and involved with education and conservation activities. The club’s ed-
ucation programs help new anglers get involved in the sport and experienced
fly-fishers sharpen their skills. Among TVFF’s conservation activities is the financial assistance given to the Alameda Creek Alliance, an organization with
the purpose of helping to restore steelhead trout to this beautiful stretch of river
through scenic Niles Canyon. Perhaps the best known club-sponsored educational activity is “Trout in the Classroom." For 15 years, TVFF’s “Trout in the
Classroom” program has placed specially cooled and oxygenated aquariums
with trout eggs in about 3 dozen elementary and middle school classrooms in
the area. The students excitedly watch the eggs hatch into baby trout. Often the
whole class travels to one of the local waters to release the young fish into the
wild. To date TVFF has enabled well over 40,000 children to participate in this
wondrous experience. Monthly meetings feature widely recognized guest
speakers who share their knowledge of the sport. Meetings are held at 7:00 PM
on the first Thursday of every month, September through June at the Livermore
-Pleasanton Rod and Gun Club, 4000 Dagnino Road, Livermore, CA 94551.
The club schedules one or more fishing trips per month for members. Visitors
are welcome to join the club for the fun-filled silent auction. There is no charge
