Q What is cellulite? A Cellulite is pockets of fat, just beneath the surface of the skin, that is often described as looking like “orange peel” or “cottage cheese”. It is estimated that 85 percent of women over the age of 20 have some form of cellulite. Until now there has been no effective treatment for cellulite. The FDA has recently cleared Cellulaze to reduce cellulite. Q What causes cellulite? A The are three structural problems that cause the appearance of cellulite. The connective tissue bands beneath the skin surrounding fat cells become tight and inflexible. Secondly, enlarged pockets of fat are trapped by the rigid bands and push up against the skin. Finally, thin skin makes the appearance of the cellulite worse. Q How does Cellulaze attack the cellulite? A A very small tube is inserted under the skin. A laser fiber inside the tube delivers energy directly under the skin. This increases the thickness and quality of your skin while simultaneously releasing the fibrous bands that pull it down. The laser is then used to reduce the pockets of fat. Q Who is a good candidate? A If you are not significantly overweight but have mild to moderate cellulite, you are probably a good candidate. However, a consultation with the physician in advance of the procedure is required. Q A How long does Cellulaze take and will I have to take time off work? Cellulaze is performed by a physician in our office under local anesthetic. The treatment usually takes one to two hours. The good news is that you can return to your normal activities within just a day or two. You can resume more strenuous activities in one to two weeks. Q A Does Cellulaze require more than one treatment and is it long-lasting? In all the clinical studies, results are achieved with just one treatment. While some initial effect may be seen, patients usually see improvements within a few weeks and results continue to improve over a period of three to twelve months. Clinical studies have shown results are long-lasting; however, you must maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen to maintain results. Q How do I know Cellulaze really works? A Clinical studies have shown Cellulaze increases the thickness of your skin by 25 percent and elasticity by 29 percent. Ninety-three percent of patients surveyed were satisfied with their treatment and all would recommend Cellulaze to a friend. 38 after4O.com july+august 2012
