sambandhan SAMBANDHAN' is a POP STICK BRIDGE MAKING EVENT for students especially who are interested in field of Civil Engineering. In this contest, participants need to make a Pop Stick bridge for which all required parameters will be provided. Rules: > Each team comprises maximum three members. The bridge must conform to dimensions. >The complete bridge is to contain a maximum of 250 Popsicle sticks joined together with all purpose, nontoxic glue (note: industrial glue are not permitted), cello tape, nylon thread. White glue is the only glue permitted. >Time allotted for competition 3 + 1 hours. 3 hours in first day for construction of bridge, 1 hour in second day for decoration before final submission. >Bridges will be weighed before being tested. If there is a tie, the lightest bridge wins. >Popsicle sticks may be cut. (No Cutting tool will be provided) >A "Matchbox" / "Hot Wheels" sized toy car must be able to be rolled across the bridge on the bridge deck. The car is approximately 3.5 cm wide and 2 cm in height. >Pinning, clamping or non-white glue are not allowed to be used for connections. Failure to abide by this rule will result in disqualification. >There must be a banner with information on the participants >Participants may decorate their bridge without influences on Structural Part. No such object will be provided. Participants must bring their own decorating material. >All bridges will be destroyed during testing unless the contestant decides to stop (to save their bridge!). >The bridge must bear a minimum load of a 2 kg weight (otherwise, it will break before you start testing!) Dimensions:- The bridge has to span across is 500 mm. We recommend the overall length of the structure to be at least 550 mm. The maximum height of the bridge is 250 mm.The bridge deck must be covered. (Note:- Dimensions may change.) Materials : Bridge Materials : >The material for the bridge construction will be provided: >250 Popsicle Sticks. ->Bottle of white glue. >Nylon Thread >Other material (if needed without violating rule) must be brought by the participants themselves. Bridge Deck Material >Bridge Deck should be made by suitable things (like construction paper, Cupboard pieces, thermocol; Use of ply wood is strictly prohibited). Participants must ensure it is a flat, single sheet and will allow a "Matchbox"/ "Hot Wheels" sized car to roll across. Banner Materials ->Materials needed for banner will not be provided. Any material can be used as long as the banner does not become a structural part of the bridge. Teams using the banner as a structural part of bridge will be disqualified. Scoring: Scoring will be of 200 marks. Break up of marks will be like this--- ->Load Bearing Capacity of Structure-- 150 marks >Aesthetics -- 25 marks ->Judges consideration -- 25 marks -> Total -- 200 marks. Bridge Testing Prior to competition Judges will: ->Weigh each bridge before testing. If there is a tie, the lightest bridge wins. ->Ensure that a maximum of 250 sticks are used. ->Examine each bridge to ensure that only Popsicle sticks, white glue and construction paper are used and that the construction paper is only used for the bridge deck. ->Ensure each bridge has a team banner and has no structural effect. ->Check bridge that there is a deck and that a "Matchbox" car can pass across the bridge. ->Bridges not meeting these requirements may be disqualified from the competition. Bridge Load Testing ->Bridges will be loaded on top with a loading plate and hanger connected to a jack located below the bridge. The load is applied by operating the jack to put pressure on the loading plate. The amount of load will be measured with proving ring readings. – Contacts : ->Debopam Chatterjee: 08274997375 ->Subhra Chatterjee: 07278570745 -> Sougata Shaw: 09007670788
