W elcome to the 2015 CSA season at Lucky Moon Farm. As usual

W
elcome to the 2015 CSA season at Lucky Moon Farm. As usual, it's hard to think about summer veggies when it's only 10
degrees outside and the snow is blowing horizontally by the window. But, our planning for the growing season already began last
year with notations of vegetable varieties that we really liked or ones that didn't work out for us. The next step was going through remaining seed inventory from last year and ordering new seed for this season. At this point, our seed orders have been placed and are arriving
back here. It's time to start planting.
Yes, despite the below freezing temperatures and feet of snow on the ground, spring arrives early in our basement where the grow lights
and heat mats are currently set up. Soon, tender green seedlings of onions, peppers and tomatoes will begin popping up and reaching for
the light. And, believe it or not, we are only a week or so away from planting early greens in one of the greenhouses!
(CSA) is a method of farming which unites consumers with the farmer who produces their
food.
Members purchase a season-long share of
fresh produce and by doing so, before the
growing season begins, provide their farmer
with the means to meet preseason expenses,
as well as allow the ability to plan for quantities of produce to grow.
The subscription garden is ideal for people
who want fresh local produce, but whose commitments and/or living situations limit their
ability to garden.
CSA brings consumers in touch with the land
that grows their food and allows them to
share in the farm’s plentiful
harvest and rare
shortfalls.
Either we will deliver produce to your home
or you pick up your produce once a week
(day to be determined at the start of the
season).
We use a canvas bag method for packaging
your produce.
Due to seasonal fluctuations in farm
productivity, vegetable quantities and varieties will vary. The early weeks may contain
less produce, but this will be made up by
mid-season when the farm is in full production.
At the beginning of the season, each family
provides two labeled bags (approximately
the size of a grocery bag).
Our aim is to provide a steady harvest of
delicious produce throughout the growing
season.
One empty bag must be
returned each week when
you come to pick up your
vegetables, so that we
always have a bag
available to fill
for you.
