CASE STUDY: CLINTAR
In March 2011, NO SAFETY CULTURE existed at Clintar. Shortly thereafter, MAC Safety performed the first audit and
toured the facility, equipment, and job sites. From there, MAC began the implementation process of developing safety
meetings, policy, and procedures; forming a safety committee; and managing all worker compensation claims. MAC
also trained employees, which covered topics including: blood borne pathogens, equipment trainings, heat safety, haz
com, and first aid class. Additionally MAC wrote new procedures and all SOPs for equipment use. MAC also began
keeping records of all recordable injuries.
By the end of 2011, there was a FULL WORKING SAFETY CULTURE in place at Clintar—thanks to MAC Safety.
Then, in April 2013, disaster struck as there was a fatal injury with Clintar. The first call from the owner of Clintar
went to Chris Miranda, President and Owner, MAC Safety, since an investigation begins immediately with a workplace
fatality. MAC searched the records and presented all trainings and procedures that were initiated and constantly
updated through employee participation. MAC worked closely with Clintar’s insurance provider and lawyers to provide
the necessary proof to verify that there was a well working safety culture in place and show that Clintar was NOT AT
FAULT.
MAC Safety saved Clintar, as a franchise, costs such as workers comp and death benefits, which would have been
catastrophic to the business—if there had been any negligence. The OSHA citation process is a game-changer.
Additionally, MAC saved numerous workers comp increases, since with an active safety culture the risk to the company
is lessened because it is viewed as a safe workplace. These percentage point monthly increases over a period of three
years are something companies can’t forecast.
