Using the built-in templates, you can easily drag and drop text, graphics, movies, and other content you have already created to build an interactive experience for the user. Note: This is Mac-only software and books created can only be read on an iPad or Mac. 1:00 to 3:00 PM Room 252A Introduction to Programming With Scratch Victor Horman, Professor, Calvin College The Scratch programming environment has long been recognized as an effective first tool to learn computer programming. The environment is so easy to use that students as young as second grade can learn to program with Scratch. After demonstrating how this free online platform enables teachers to give students extra practice, quick feedback, and multiple ways to access course materials, we will work with participants to create their own Schoology sites. Room 252B Screencasting for All Craig Steenstra, Educational Technology Consultant, Kent ISD In this workshop, participants will learn how to create screen-recording videos from their PCs (or learn how to do it better). These videos could be used by teachers or administrators to communicate or teach others about pretty much any topic. They could also be used by students to show learning or produce media for projects. We will go over tips and tools for efficiency and quality, and we will create various examples while exploring options for storing and saving our creations. Room 252B Adventures With MIT App Inventor 2 - Make Android Apps Greg Marten, Educational Technology Consultant, Lenawee ISD This session will guide individuals through learning the basics of free, web-based App Inventor 2 software, which allows people to use blocks-based programming to create and share apps that run on Android devices. Attendees must have Google accounts for this session; they’ll use laptops to create and edit apps. Also, participants should bring an Android device with MIT AI2 Companion App already installed in it for live testing of newly crafted apps. Room 259 Engage English Language and Struggling Learners Through Technology Cheryl Prindle, Teacher, Kentwood Public Schools English language and other struggling learners are part of the digital native generation. Their interest in and aptitude for technology can be focused to increase their skill acquisition. Visual engagement can help bridge the spectrum of educational backgrounds, cultural differences, heritage languages, and levels within a classroom.
