SHARE SUNDAY: Below is the Text of a letter to the people of the Archdiocese of |Dublin from archbishop Diarmuid Martin on the occasion th
of the publication of the diocesan accounts for the year ended 30 June 2014. Copies of these figures arec available at the back of the church. The Archbishop’s letter reads as follows: Dear Friends, Recent years have seen great changes in the archdiocese of Dublin. In many ways these have been difficult years, but these difficulties should not cloud the remarkable change for good that is taking place in the Archdiocese. Parishes and parish groupings have never before been so active. There is a real sense of working together for mission between priest and people, lay and religious. There is a real interest among many in developing a personal adult faith in Jesus Christ as a lifelong process. The population of the archdiocese of Dublin is increasing and will continue to increase in the years to come. Our process of change and renewal will have to take on new momentum. If we want the children of the future to to be able to experience the joy of the Gospel then we will have to invest in fresh forms of faith education, based in new ways in our parishes. Today I am writing to you about the Share collection which has been taking place at each Sunday Mass now for generations. The progress of renewal that we have made right across the diocese over these years could not have taken place without Share and I thank you sincerely for your ready generosity. In the future we will need new forms of sharing and solidarity to provide services which can resource individual parishes and especially poorer parishes to carry out their functions. In addition to the upkeep and repair of churches in poorer areas , Share supports the central administration of the Archdiocese as it provides vital support in areas such as training in evangelisation, financial management, human relations, information and technology, child safeguarding and support for our schools. All this depends on Share and I appeal to your continued generosity. With prayerful good wishes, Yours very sincerely, + Diarmuid Martin, Archbishop of Dublin. on Monday 20 April from 10 am till 8 pm. WORDS OF WISDOM: 1) There’s always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. For example, I am sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don’t hurt; 2) You don’t stop laughing because you grow old. You grow old because you stop laughing; 3) The purpose of a child’s middle name is so he can tell when he’s really in trouble; 4) How long a minute is depends on which side of the bathroom door you are on.5) We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names and all are different colours but they all have to learn to live in the same box; 6) A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
