and kindness of heart brings peace of mind,
and by giving love we can start this day
to lift the clouds of hate and fear.
SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE

1. A commandment of love is something of a contradiction in
terms. Love is a free choice. That is what gives the thrill to the
experience of being loved. Recall times when you received
gestures of love from another • a spontaneous embrace
from a husband or wife; • a wave from a friend; •
words of comfort and affirmation; not because the other
person felt obliged to reach out to you but because they
wanted to let you know that you were loved. What effect did
that have on you? Did it bring you joy? Perhaps you have had a
glimpse of the truth of what Jesus said, that it is in loving that
our joy is complete.
2. Often love and friendship make demands on us. Parents give
freely of their time and energy to the care of their children and
sometimes it requires a lot of effort. Also in responding to the
needs of friends or spouses we can be challenged to ‘lay down’
our own ‘lives’ at least for a time. Can you recall a time when
putting yourself out for others bore fruit for them and for you?
ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT – CHANGE
OF TIMES: In preparation for the First Communions in our
parish the church will be required for practices FOR THE
NEXT TWO WEEKS. To facilitate these preparations
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place on
Mondays from 2.00 – 10.00pm and on Tuesdays &
Wednesdays 7.00 – 9.00pm.
WORDS OF WISDOM: 1) Things which matter most should
never be at the mercy of things that matter least; 2) Pressure
is nothing more than the shadow of great opportunity; 3) If you
feel ‘dog tired’ at night, maybe it’s because you ‘growled’ all
day; 4) It isn’t hard to make a mountain out of a molehill. Just
add a little dirt; 5) What counts is not the number of hours you
put in, but how much you put into the hours.
B E G I N N I N G E X P E R I E N C E is a support group for those
coping with the pain of loss of their life partner, through
death, separation or divorce. This is a healing ministry,
which helps to resolve the grief that goes with the end of a
marriage or relationship. Coping effectively with
bereavement is a skill we can all learn. Next residential
weekend from 15 th – 17 th May in All Hallows, Drumcondra,

LEARNING ABOUT YOUR CATHOLIC FAITH St. Sylvester’s
Parish Centre, Malahide. The series consists of one hour
videos of the famous “THE CATHOLICISM SERIES”. It runs
on successive Fridays 7.15-9.15 p.m. until the last
session on Friday May 22 nd . There is no problem
attending next week if you have not attended before then. A

Hospitalite Notre Dame de Lourdes from the 5th to the 12th

MEDJUGORJE YOUTH PILGRIMAGE: For Youth Festival
29th July to 5th August – a group from the cluster will travel to
this event and there are still a few places left for anyone over
18. Due to fundraising cost is €499 for under 26 years and
€549 for adults accompanying youths. As bookings for this trip

IRISH COLLEGE OF ENGLISH: Host families are now being
recruited for the Irish College of English for the peak weeks of
4th July to 25th July. Families must offer a shared or single
room and can host 1 – 3 students at a time. Breakfast,
packed lunch and dinner to be served each day. Provide a
friendly and welcoming environment. Families will be offered
excellent rates and full support during the students stay and
can earn up to 1050 euro by hosting 3 students during this
two
week
period.

Martin on Marriage Referendum – (Full text available at the back of the church) ‘For me the fundamental question is about the
complementarity of men and women, of male and female, in
the nature of humanity. This is a philosophical concept which
some will easily put aside, but for me it is the fundamental
one. Why do humans exist as male and female? Is that
distinction simply marginal? Is it simply a social construct? I
am not saying that men and women do not share equality, but
that one can only understand and tease out what that equality
means within the concept of complementarity. ~~~~~~~~~~
We are not isolated individuals. That we exist as male and
female is not a marginal dimension of being human.

What does that complementarity of male and female entail?
There are theological arguments which Pope Francis has set
out:
“Man and woman alone are made in the image and likeness
of God: the biblical text repeats it three times in two passages:
man and woman are the image and likeness of God. This tells
us that it is not man alone who is the image of God or woman
alone who is the image of God, but man and woman as a
couple who are the image of God. The difference between
man and woman is not meant to stand in opposition, or to
subordinate, but is for the sake of communion and generation,
always
in
the
image
and
likeness
of
God”.

An ethics of equality does not require uniformity. There can be
an ethic of equality which is an ethic of recognising and
respecting difference. A pluralist society can be creative in
finding ways in which people of same-sex orientation have
their rights and their loving and caring relationships
recognised and cherished in a culture of difference, while
respecting the uniqueness of the male-female relationship. I
know that the harshness with which the Irish Church treated
gay and lesbian people in the past – and in some cases still
today – may make it hard for LGBT people to accept that I am
sincere in what I am proposing’. ~~~~~~~~~~
