But dear children, there is a lot more you can do to make your vacations more interesting, meaningful and full of fun. Here is a “Summer Vacation Activity Treasure Box” just for you. It will surely mould you for a better and successful forthcoming year. So get ready for your treasure hunt. Guidelines for parents In this modern world parents get very little time to spend with their little prince/princess so we are suggesting a few activities for the parents to help them spend quality time with their ward. ’To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear’’ 1. Sense of responsibilityTeach your little ones to carry small jobs like Indulging them in small activities, helping their mothers in kitchen, laying table, filling water bottles, dusting, watering of plants, cleaning their cupboard, arranging their toys, feeding birds etc. 3. English conversationConverse in English with your child & encourage the child to communicate confidently with visitors & relatives. Develop a habit of speaking in proper sentences and seeking permission. Some sentences such as -May I go to the park? May I play with my toys? -I am feeling hungry; May I have something to eat. - Please give me a tissue paper /book/pencil./……. - Excuse me, May I talk to you for a minute. - Thank you for the wonderful gift. - I am thirsty; May I have some water. 4. Encourage the child to use magic words like Sorry, Thank you, Please, Excuse me, Welcome etc. 5. For spiritual development encourage the child to start & end the day with a prayer. 6. Kindly make a routine for the child to do written work every day for half an hour, this will improve his/her handwriting. Help your ward to write his/her name 5 times in his 3 in 1 notebook. Also make him/her practice Capital A-Z (5 Times) Counting 1-100 and After numbers (5 Times each) Swar अ –अः ( 5 Times) Everything should be done legibly in 3 in 1 notebook with Date and H.W. 7. Encourage your child to play board games like Chess, Ludo, Carom etc. Students have to submit the given homework on 3rd July’15 in a handmade carry bag with clearly mentioned Name, class and section. Kindly take the colored printouts of the worksheets. It would be wonderful if the children themselves make and decorate the carry bag with their tiny hands. We will meet your little one on 1st July’15. We have divided the Activity Treasure Box into four different categories. 1. PROJECT WORK: - MY EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING The activity will help your child to use his/her innovative ideas & imagination which he/she has observed, into beautiful & wonderful ‘creations’.It is an important part of discovery learning, and discovery learning is learning that lasts. A) Counting is fun Help the child to understand the importance of numbers in our daily life & to understand the relevance of knowing how to count. Conduct these activities with your child. Please stick to numbers 1 to 50. Ask the child to count the number of family members, beds, fans, glasses, stairs in the house etc. Ask him to write the observation in his notebook. Help your ward to learn your cell phone no. & residence address. Count and list the number of houses in your street, trees in nearby garden, steps from main gate to the house door, gates of your colony. Note down your observations in 3 in 1 notebook(activity A) B) BOARD GAME Your child can learn basic math skills with this fun board game. Let him create and decorate his board game. You and your child will take turns to roll dice which will determine how many spaces forward you can move. By counting aloud he/she will easily remember numbers and will build excitement. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to participate in group play, exercise turn taking, alphabet/swar recognition and will enhance their vocabulary. What You Need: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. A large jar or coffee can with lid Paint Paintbrushes Paper Tape or glue Index cards Markers (optional) Stickers (optional) How to prepare and play: 1. Let your child decorate a jar, coffee can, or other container of choice. The container should have a tight lid . 2.Tell your child to make the alphabet/swar cards, fold it and put inside the jar! Let your child write one letter of the alphabet/swar on each index card. Put the lid on, and let your child shake them up! 3. Now, you are ready to play! 4. Play some light music and each player will pass the jar. When the music will stop the player with the jar will pull out a letter/swar and tries to name three things that start with that letter/swar. If they do it in time, they get the letter card! But if it takes too long, someone else can steal the turn. 5. The winner of the game is the person who can collect the most letters/swar. 6. Also rest of the classmates can enjoy these games in the class. D) FUN WITH COLOURS Children love the “magic” of combining colors to make a new color. This art and science activity will show your child how primary colors combine to make secondary colors. This activity allows your child to see first-hand how the primary colors can create the secondary colors. As a bonus, the act of kneading the shaving cream for thorough mixing of colors gives your child an opportunity to develop fine motor skills that will be important in handwriting. White paper Cotton swabs or small paintbrushes What To Do: 1. Learning can be messy, guide your ward to put on his/her Apron first! Help your ward to put a plum-sized dollop of shaving cream into each of the three bowls. 2. Let your child carefully squeeze 3 drops of red and 3 drops of blue food color on the shaving cream. In another bowl, 3 drops of blue and 3 drops of yellow food color. In a third bowl, squeeze 3 drops of red and 3 drops of yellow food color. 3. Ask your child to observe what happens when he kneads the shaving cream in each bowl. How does the shaving cream change? What colors did red/blue, blue/yellow, and red/yellow turn into? 4. When he/she mixed enough colors, instruct your child to use the cotton swabs or small paintbrushes to paint a picture. The finished product with its unique color and texture is great for framing Send the framed creation in the school for display in class (activity D) 2. FUN FILLED ACTIVITIES Games instill discipline and helps in channelizing energies of little ones constructively. MATERIAL for T-Shirt Plain fabric T-shirt Fabric paint Found objects to use for printing (juice bottle caps, thread spools, logos, etc) How to make the T- Shirt 1. Help your ward to first, iron the T- shirt and put newspaper inside it. This was to stabilize the fabric as well as to prevent the fabric paint from going through to the back of the shirt. 2. Then he/she can paint the print tool of their choice with fabric paint and press the painted side of the bottle cap (or whatever) to T-shirt to make a print. Easy! 3. LOGIC BEHIND THE SCENE Science never fails to fascinate the children. This is the most interesting activity where in kids will explore and learn through small and handy experiments. Help your ward to perform these small experiments. A. Invisible InkMaking invisible ink is lot of fun; you and your ward can pretend as a secret agent as to keep all the secret codes and messages hidden from others. What you need: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Half a lemon Water Spoon Bowl Cotton bud White paper Lamp or other light bulb What to do 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Squeeze some lemon juice into the bowl and add a few drops of water. Mix the water and lemon juice with the spoon. Dip the cotton bud into the mixture and write a message or draw onto the white paper. Wait for the juice to dry so it becomes completely invisible. Popcorn Science for All Five Senses Have you ever noticed that whenever you pop a bag of popcorn in the microwave/Pressure Cooker, somehow the entire family knows and shows up to share the tasty treat? That's because it's a "multisensory" snack, or a snack that incorporates all five senses. This activity is an appetizing way to teach your kindergartener what the five senses are all about! Help your kindergartener cut them out and glues each item below under its heading. Stick the popcorn in the microwave/pressure cooker and hand your child the observation sheet to record what he/she sees, hears, and smells as the popcorn pops. Then when the popcorn is finished cooking (and has cooled down a bit) invite your child to record how the popcorn feels and tastes! Help your ward to attempt the observation sheet below. Then enjoy your tasty snack! Talk about her/his observations, and be sure to ask questions like, "If the popcorn smelled like garbage, would you still want to eat it?" and "If the popcorn felt slimy, would you still want to touch it?"
