MyOcean Science Days 2014 Toulouse, September 22-‐24, 2014 2nd Announcement Open Science Conference on Operational Oceanography in Europe Venue: Météo France International Conférences Centre (http://www.meteo.fr/cic/) MyOcean2 is organising, with the support of the Mercator-‐Ocean and Coriolis Scientific Council (GMMC), an open science th
conference on Operational Oceanography between Monday 22 September 2014 (early afternoon) and Wednesday 24 September. The conference will cover all scientific areas of operational oceanography as well as its applications (weather, seasonal and climate monitoring, marine resources, marine safety, coastal and marine environment). The Conference is organized near the close-‐out of the MyOcean2 project, with the aim of providing a forum for discussion of all scientific matters related to ocean monitoring and forecasting systems, the quality control and processing of observations feeding into the assimilative systems, and the usage of operational oceanography products for scientific applications. Objectives of the 2014 conference -‐ To review the status of R&D activities and of scientific achievements of MyOcean, MyOcean-‐2 and related EU-‐funded projects; -‐ To enhance exchange of scientific information between actors of operational oceanography from Europe and elsewhere; -‐ To promote and assess the usage of MyOcean products for scientific research; -‐ To closer link the MyOcean scientific needs with national and international research projects (e.g. GODAE OceanView); -‐ To identify future research directions to improve existing marine services, or to develop new capacities in the Copernicus framework. Call for abstracts around the following themes -‐ New space and in situ observation technologies and methodologies for ocean monitoring and forecasting -‐ Methods for operational data processing, validation and quality control; -‐ Ocean modelling and parameterizations in forecasting models, from the global to the regional scales; -‐ Data assimilation methods and algorithms, including parameterizations for operational applications; -‐ Biogeochemical/bio-‐optical/ecosystem modelling approaches for monitoring and forecasting; -‐ Skill assessment methods, verification, validation and uncertainty estimation methods; -‐ Re-‐analyses of the ocean circulation, variability and environmental indicators; -‐ Scientific usage of, and requirements for, operational oceanography products. Participation The colloquium is open to all MyOcean participants as well as to scientists involved in the research topics as listed here above. Contributions are more specifically expected form individuals in charge of scientific activities developed in MyOcean (R&D and Production Centre), and from investigators involved in national or EU-‐funded projects that contribute to Operational Oceanography. Further, contributions focusing on scientific usage of MyOcean products and services are most welcome.
