Literature Circle Mini Projects: Genre Choice General notes: These are quiz grades. You will be given one day in class to work on them, but you may need to do some work at home. No late work is permitted without an emerald. Neatness counts, as do written conventions like spelling and capitalization. This is your chance to be creative. If you need help, please see me talk it over with members of your group. Section 1: Character Select a writing genre that communicates information about either your favorite character or the character you consider to be most significant in your book. Your written piece must Include the book title and author Include the character's name and a "portrait" or illustration Describe your character and why he or she is important in your book Explain how you feel about this character. Include a memorable quote from the text. Be creative in your choice. Essays are not permitted for this quiz. Due Date: ___________ Section 2: Setting Select a writing genre that communicates information about your novel’s setting and why this setting is important to the plot or characters. The written piece must: Identify the time and place Include information about 4-5 scenes Include 4-5 illustrations Explain why the setting is important – how does it affect the characters or plot? Be creative in your choice. No essays. Due Date: ___________ Section 3: Plot Imagine that you live in the same time and place as the novel you are reading. You need to find work to support your family. Think about what kinds of jobs are available and what job would you choose, if given a choice. Then, write a letter to an imaginary business or individual, asking for a job and explaining why you are qualified for that job. Remember, a letters follow a specific format. Your project must look like a letter, with a date, a salutation, name, paragraphs, closing, and signature. Use your resources to help you with the design of this letter. Minimum 3 paragraphs. Due Date: ___________ Section 4: Theme Select a writing genre that communicates information about your novel’s theme. This may be a visual genre or a written genre.
