Key questions when getting started
• Do you need a shade (pages 36-37), drape (page 38) or blind (page 38)?
• What type of power are you going to use (110 VAC, 24VDC, battery, solar)?
• Is this new construction or retrofit? Wireless communication or hardwired?
• What are the sizes of the treatments? How many treatments?
• How are you looking to control the window treatments?
• If this is being controlled by an automation system, do you need 2-way
communication? Do you need percentage control or is open/close sufficient?
Measuring for Motorized Roller Shades
There are 3 type of measurements for shades:
• Inside the frame: This approach is used
when the exterior walls feature 2x6
construction. Windows are mounted on the
exterior, leaving a pocket that is 4+ inches
deep, perfect for a shade. Measure the
width at the top, middle and bottom. Use
the narrowest width. When ordering,
request a deduction so the shade brackets
do not bind when installed. Any gap is
easily cured with shims.
Inside frame
On Molding
Surface mount
• Surface Mount: This approach is for when
the shade is going to be mounted on the
molding. Measure from molding edge to
molding edge. A deduction is not requested
when using a surface mount approach.
• Cloth Measurement: This approach is not
used often. Use cloth measurement when
the fabric must be a specific width and the
total bracket width is flexible. The fabricator
cuts the cloth to the exact dimensions and
then adds the motor and brackets. Total
width varies based on the motor type and
tube diameter.
• Measure the space to the closest 1/8”.
Always round down. Provide the height and
the narrowest width measurement. Always
use a metal measuring device for accuracy.
• Each treatment is cut on a completely automated
vacuum table that pulls the fabric to the table for
an accurate square cut every time
• To add and hem the weight bar, and RF welder
uses a shuttle system that enables the fabric
to be welded without handling the fabric thus
ensuring a perfect weld every time
• The final stop for each shade is the assembly
table and testing racks. Each shade must be
tested before it is packed for shipment.
• While testing, the aesthetic aspects of the shade
are reviewed for scratches, dirt and proper rolling.
Once a shade has been deemed perfect it will be
wrapped and then packaged for safe transfer.
Motorized Roller Shade Motor Options
• Power 110VAC: Motors feature the highest lifting
capacity of the 3 power options offered in the
Worthington Distribution shade program. While
the motors are more expensive, there are no
power supplies to add. We offer the Somfy
Sonesse (quiet series) motors which are available
with contact closure, ILT (can be converted to
RS-485, Z-Wave or ZigBee), or 1 way RTS
wireless. The 110VAC motor uses wider tubes
than low voltage; however, they feature very
consistent speeds regardless of wire length.
• Power 24VDC: The most popular motor offering
for the low voltage contractor. Shades start at
only 24” and typically run up to 96” wide. The
24VDC motors are typically pre-wired with 18
(100’) ,16 (150’), or 14 (200’) gauge wire. When
multiple shades are pre-wired for the same room
it is recommended to keep the wire lengths equal
so the motors will run at a similar speed. We
offer the Somfy Sonesse (quiet series) motors
which are available with contact closure, RS-485
(compatible with Z-Wave or ZigBee) , or 1-way
RTS wireless.
• Power 12VDC: The most economical and flexible
motor. This motor can be run on a plug-in power
supply or it can be 100% wireless. Battery
options include Lithium AA’s, or a solar recharging
system with a 5 year guarantee. Control is with
1-way RTS wireless. Shade sizes vary based on
length but are up to 96” on a 72” long treatment.

Contact Closure Integration:
When using an ILT or ST-30 DCT for contact closure control,
only one motor can be connected to each relay. Use a
SOM9012345 for contact closure control of an ILT motor.
HAI Integration - RTS Wireless
• The best Somfy integration with HAI is the Somfy Digital
Network (RS-485 and ILT); however, the most popular
integration is RTS (Radio Technology Somfy)
• RTS is available in all Somfy motor classes including
roller shades, drapery, and blinds
• Handheld and wall mount RF remotes offer a large
number of installation and control options
• A repeater can be added in larger applications
• Integration with HAI is easy via contact closure or RS-485
• Order the SOMHAICBL cable and SOM1810872 (URTSII)
• Turn the URTSII jumper to 1 and clone an RTS handheld remote channel
repeat for additional RTS channels. Test with the up/down/stop buttons.
• Set the dial to position 1 (address 1 on the RS485 network)
• Set the HAI serial port jumper to RS-485 (not RS-232)
• Set the serial mode to ProLink (not Somfy)
• Send messages from the HAI to the URTSII
• Messages UR CH DIR
• UR = Address: 01 to 16 (2 digits)
• CH = Channel: 01 to 16 (2 digits)
• DIR = Direction: U = Up D = Down S = Stop (Must be capital letters)

• The chart is for standard pinch pleat drapes
• Start by measuring the opening
• The stack column estimates the amount of
area the fabric will need when it bunches up
• To allow the entire opening to be visible when
the drapery is open the rod length should equal
the opening width plus the stack width
• When the rod length is too short, the drapery
may block part of the opening when open
