Oregon Community Quarterback Scholarship Application

OREGON COMMUNITY QUARTERBACK SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship Application
Goal The Oregon Community Quarterback Scholarship is a renewable four‐year collegiate scholarship program for Oregon high school seniors who are emerging leaders who plan to attend an Oregon university or trade school. The program is intended to facilitate the growth of promising leaders in the state of Oregon by developing the skills needed to flourish within their local communities. This is a need‐based scholarship with criteria focusing on an individual’s involvement in his or her community, rather than academic or athletic performance. Four scholarships will be issued for the 2015/16 academic year. Each scholarship is worth $2,500 and renewable for a four‐year total of $10,000 per student. The Foundation is making for a total annual commitment of $40,000 a year in perpetuity. Background
For the past three years, the Harrington Family Foundation (HFF) has raised more than $1M for Oregon students, led by local favorite, Joey Harrington. Joey was born and raised in Oregon and feels a vital connection to the state that has provided him many opportunities. It is the place he and his wife Emily, have chosen to grow their family post‐NFL, and remain close to those who helped in his success. Joey believes investing in dedicated Oregon college students ultimately invests in the good of Oregon. Joey recognizes leaders do not only exist on the athletic field, or in front of a television camera. The Oregon Community Quarterback Scholarship is designed to find and encourage students who have shown a take‐charge ability in their community, but may need help reaching their potential. Following are HFF events supporting the Oregon Community Quarterback Scholarship: The Pacific Office Automation Battle at Bandon, June 19‐21, 2015 Joey Harrington’s Battle at Bandon is a competitive, handicapped golf tournament where current and former athletes and coaches play for their respective PAC‐12 universities. Each PAC‐12 school is represented by a team comprised of two athletes/coaches and two amateurs. Over the course of the weekend, the amateurs pair with the athletes/coaches to compete in a series of two‐ man, best ball matches. The Great Summer Chef Off, August 8, 2015 This one‐of‐a‐kind cook off is a new event for the Foundation. Three of the region’s top chefs go head to head in a culinary contest: Last year’s participants were OX, The Oregonian’s 2013 Restaurant of the Year; Chef & Owner Greg Denton; Lardo, Chef & Owner Rick Gencarelli; and Iorio Restaurant, Chefs & Owners Chris Thompson and Hilary Benson. Guests enjoyed watching these noteworthy chefs “at war” with each other. The winning chef—voted for by event attendees—will receive $5,000 for donation on their behalf to a children’s charity in Oregon. Bridges to Breakers Hammerhead 100, September 19, 2015 Following Joey Harrington’s bicycle riding accident three summers ago on the streets of Portland, the 1
Harrington Family Foundation has worked with community partners and volunteers from the Children’s Cancer Association (CCA) and the OHSU Sports Medicine Team to launch the Bridges to Breakers Hammerhead 100. The Hammerhead 100 is a 100‐mile bike ride that starts in Portland and ends at the McMenamins Sand Trap Pub in Gearhart. Criteria
