Hackel For Immediate Release Media Contact: John Cwikla (586) 463-3523 Date: June 1, 2015 Macomb County welcomes three male falcons to nest Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel, along with representatives from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Detroit Zoo, today named and banded three Peregrine Falcon chicks that have again made their home in Macomb atop the Old County Building. The chicks were hatched to parents Hathor and Nick earlier this spring on the 11th floor of the Old Macomb County Building, 10 N. Main Street, downtown Mount Clemens. Executive Hackel named the chicks, all three of which were male. Executive Hackel named the first falcon Peace because he said it is a quality needed for many personally as well as worldwide. The second falcon was named Aggie as a representative of Macomb County rich agricultural industry. The last falcon was named COMTEC II in honor of the falcon that was born last year which Executive Hackel named COMTEC, but who later died attempting to fly from the nest. COMTEC is the name of the county’s premiere communications center that opened in December 2013. “I take great pride every year in naming these falcons and am delighted they continue to make their home here in Macomb County,” said Executive Hackel. The Peregrine remains protected federally under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. In Michigan, Peregrines remain listed as an endangered species under state law.
