Grant awarded to expand Early Head Start services
Macomb County Community Services Agency (MCCSA) has been awarded a competitive federal
grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the amount of over $1.6 million to
expand Early Head Start program services to Macomb County residents.
Early Head Start serves infants and toddlers under the age of 3 and pregnant women with early,
continuous, intensive and comprehensive child development and family support services. MCCSA
currently serves 92 children and their families through Early Head Start. The newly-awarded grant
provides funding to serve an additional 88 eligible children and their families.
Appointments to apply for Early Head Start are now being scheduled. Application opportunities are
provided to Macomb County families with children ages birth to 3 years old who also have an annual
income at or below 100 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. Applicants are required to provide
proof of residency, age of the child and 12 months of income at the time of application in order to
determine eligibility. Contact MCCSA at (586) 469-5215 for an application appointment.
MCCSA is working with numerous licensed child care partners to provide services: Academy 4
Lil’Angels in Sterling Heights, Morning Star Early Learning Center at the Kennedy Early Childhood
Center in Warren and Mini Kampus II, Inc. in St. Clair Shores. They are also excited to announce a
new child care partner, ACCESS in Sterling Heights. ACCESS is facilitating services through licensed
family home child care businesses operated by women from Iraq and Syria.
Macomb County Community Services Agency is a Community Action Agency dedicated to helping
people and changing lives. MCCSA offers many programs to Macomb County residents, including
emergency assistance, Head Start, senior services and weatherization. For more information, visit
