Quality of Service (QoS) Setup for VoIP
(NB9WMaxxn)
NB9WMaxxn Quality of Service Setup for VoIP
The following Quality of Service (QoS) settings offer a basic setup to give VoIP traffic on the NB9WMaxxn the
highest priority of all data packet flow. All other data packet traffic through the router assumes a default
setting.
Quality of Service refers to the reservation of bandwidth resources on the Nb9Wmaxxn to provide different
priority to different applications, users, or data flows, or to guarantee a certain level of performance to a data
flow.
In this implementation Quality of Service employs DSCP – Differentiated Services Code Point – a computer
networking architecture that specifies a simple, scalable and coarse-grained mechanism for classifying,
managing network traffic
Step 1 – Setup DSCP Code Point Mark for SIP Traffic.
1.
Navigate to http://192.168.1.1 in a web browser using 'admin' (without quotes) as both the
username and password.
2. Select Voice > SIP Advanced Setting.
3. For Signaling QoS:
◦
◦
Tick to “Enable Differentiated Service Configuration”.
Set the Assign Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) mark to EF(101110).
4. For Media QoS:
◦
◦
Tick to “Enable Differentiated Service Configuration”.
Set the Assign Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) mark to EF(101110).
5. Press the Save/Apply button.
Step 2 - QoS Settings
6. Select Advanced > QoS Classification.
7.
8.
Tick to “Enable QoS”.
Select the Default DSCP Mark to default (000000).
9. Press the Save/Apply button.
10. Select Advanced > QoS Classification > Queue Config.
11. Press the Add button.
12.
13.
14.
15.
Set the Queue Configuration Status to Enable.
Set the Queue to your PVC (NZ users 0/0/100, Australian users: 0/8/35).
Set the Queue Precedence to 1 (the highest priority).
Press the Save Apply button.
16. Select Advanced > QoS Classification > QoS Classification.
17.
Press the Add button.
18. Set the Traffic Class Name to VoIP.
19. Set the Rule Order as “Last”.
20. Set the Rule Status to Enable.
21. Set “Assign Classification Queues” to your PVC with priority 1).
22. Set “Assign Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) Mark” to EF(101110).
23.
24.
25.
26.
27.
Set “mark 802.1p if 802.1q is enabled” to priority 5.
Set “802.1p Priority” under Set-2 to priority 5.
Press the Save Apply button.
Select Management > Save/Reboot.
Press the Save/Reboot button.
QoS for VoIP traffic on the NB9WMaxxn should now be set for priority traffic.
