THE CANNIBAL IN THE JUNGLE
World Premiere Sunday, May 24, from 9-11 PM (ET/PT)
TV-PG
The two-hour scripted feature THE CANNIBAL IN THE JUNGLE follows the story of an American
scientist who was convicted of killing and cannibalizing two colleagues in the jungles of Flores, Indonesia in
1977. Branded “The American Cannibal” by the press during his trial, Dr. Timothy Darrow defended himself
by claiming a mythic human-ape creature was responsible for the murders. Animal Planet’s dramatic story is
an imaginative leap inspired by real science. In 2004, a study in the journal Nature announced the discovery
of bones of an entirely new, remarkable species of humans. Fully grown adults stood only three feet tall, yet
they were able to thrive in the chaotic and dangerous world that surrounded them. The new species was
nicknamed “Hobbits,” after J.R.R. Tolkien’s diminutive heroes. These real hobbits are purported to have
lived less than 20,000 years ago, which would make them the last other species of human to live alongside
ourselves. But did these hobbits fully go extinct? Later, 60 Minutes sent a film crew to investigate
the Nature article. While on site in Flores, the crew unearthed the local legend that the creatures may have
never died out at all. Animal Planet’s scripted film THE CANNIBAL IN THE JUNGLE follows an
expedition team deep into the heart of Flores Island to investigate Darrow’s claims and find out once and for
all if these legendary creatures still exist.

NEW SERIES
THE LAST ALASKANS
World Premiere Monday, May 25, at 10 PM (ET/PT)
TV-14 (L)
In 1980, the US government banned new human occupation in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, a protected
area home to thousands of native animals and pristine terrain spanning roughly the size of South Carolina. Currently, only
a handful of families spread across seven permitted cabins are allowed to remain in the refuge. Within less than 100 years,
all remaining permits will reach expiration, and there will be no human presence left. On Monday, May 25 at 10/9c,
Animal Planet premieres THE LAST ALASKANS, a new eight-part special event that documents the lives of some of
the most isolated people in America – the last of their kind – as they struggle and thrive in Alaska’s untouched wilderness
located hundreds of miles from roads, civilization and each other. New one-hour episodes will air Sundays at 8/7c
beginning May 31.
THE LAST ALASKANS: No Man’s Land
World Premiere Monday, May 25, at 10 PM (ET/PT)
TV-14 (L)
In the series premiere of THE LAST ALASKANS, three families living in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge prepare
for the upcoming winter due to arrive in just four weeks. It is September in Alaska, and Heimo and Edna Korth set out to
hunt down the tail end of a caribou migration. Bob Harte arrives at his cabin, only to find it was ransacked by a young
grizzly bear, destroying two years of his food supply, ultimately forcing Bob to fly his small single propeller plane to a
tiny village located hundreds of miles away to resupply. The Lewis family of five arrives at the refuge with hope, as signs
of life have returned to the land surrounding their home after a wildfire forced most of the native animals to flee three
years earlier. Once settled, Ray and his teenage daughters compete with hungry wolves to take down a moose in order to
feed their family throughout the harsh winter. Later, both Heimo and Bob confront the personal tragedies that come with
living in extreme isolation nearly 400 miles from civilization.
THE LAST ALASKANS: The Hunted
World Premiere Sunday, May 31, at 8 PM (ET/PT)
TV-14 (L)
Preparations for winter are underway in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In less than three weeks, the refuge
will be covered in snow, making transport and hunting near impossible. The main objective for THE LAST ALASKANS
is to find enough food to sustain them for several months. Bob prepares his gear for the first hunt of the season but runs
into trouble when his boat engine malfunctions. Heimo spots a gigantic bull moose – the one animal that can provide
enough meat for himself and his wife throughout the entire winter. After tracking the animal to a gravel bar, Heimo
deploys his signature moose call to draw it out into the open. Later, a fourth family – Tyler and Ashley Selden – arrive at
their cabin to find it flooded by a rising river. After working to catch nearly 400 salmon, the young couple is forced to go
on the offensive after a bear ransacks their fish pile, threatening their only means of keeping their dog team fed through
winter.

than all of Jeremy Wade’s previous RIVER MONSTERS investigations combined. So which creature from these

monster. Fishermen are under attack from an unknown freshwater invader, leaving their bodies bruised and
battered. Stories of attacks are capturing international headlines, so Jeremy is determined to unveil what is
causing trouble in paradise. After hearing tales of similar attacks from locals, Jeremy discovers that he possibly
has already encountered this culprit and ventures 2,500 feet above sea level to a dam that’s said to house the
biggest eels in the area. But after weeks of fishing, he comes up empty handed, and his determination reaches new
heights. Jeremy retraces his steps and turns his search to a river monster that never has landed on his radar before
– the giant trevally fish. He’s hoping to find these RIVER MONSTERS at a beautiful coral reef but has a long
hunt ahead. When Jeremy finally hooks what feels like a truly giant beast, does he have enough energy to bring in
the catch after four exhausting hours on a rod and reel?

Botswana. And of all the RIVER MONSTERS he has encountered throughout his travels, this suspected maneater still gets under his skin. This time, Jeremy is determined to confront these aggressive predators face to face
in their own environment. An African river poses many deadly threats and few humans would dare break the
surface, much less dive into its dark depths. But Jeremy willingly makes himself human bait, diving 40-feet
underwater, in hopes of finding a pack of hungry tigerfish – to prove that these giants hunt in groups like piranha.
Meanwhile, convicted man-eaters, African crocodiles swim nearby.
