Established under the Medical Practitioners Act 1978 as amended 2007, the Medical Council is the regulatory body for
members of the medical profession. The objective of the Medical Council is to protect the public by promoting and better
ensuring high standards of professional conduct and professional education, training and competence among registered
medical practitioners. The Medical Council seeks to appoint a Chief Executive Officer who will report to the Council and
will take responsibility for the overall management of the Medical Council and its staff with particular relevance to
operational and administrative matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Key Requirements:

Leading and managing a highly professional team,
and delivering against key performance indicators

Previous experience within posts of significant
responsibility

Taking the lead in delivering Council policy, and
developing and managing the annual budget and
financial affairs of the Council

Relevant third level qualification in business or a
related discipline

Advising and informing the Council in relation to its
obligations and responsibilities under the MPA 2007
and ensuring compliance with the Act at all times

Minimum of seven years’ senior management
experience in diverse and complex teams and projects

Maintaining the Register in good order as per the MPA
2007 obligations

Excellent technical, interpersonal and communications
skills

Undertaking all statutory duties in regard to inquiries
as held by the fitness to practice committee

Previous experience in a regulatory and/or
professional body would be highly desirable though
not essential
The salary will be commensurate with the responsibility of the post and the successful candidate will benefit from
membership of the Local Government Superannuation Scheme. The appointment will be for a fixed term of five years,
with the possibility of a further one year extension.
