That all comes to an end during Meet d3, where members of the OBEY crew will visit Dubai for the first time to live-paste a massive 30 meter x 8 meter installation made up of 4 huge square graphics from their music collection. BEN EINE It’s as easy as ABC to see why Ben Eine’s crisp & colorful alphabet lettering on shop shutters and city walls have spanned the globe from his London hometown to major cities like Paris, Stockholm and New York. Until now, Dubai was missing from that list, but all of that changes at Meet d3. Flexing his fancy font work, Ben has painted a wall in d3 that will be on display for the first time during the 3-day event. The giant mural reads “HAND IN HAND”, a message promoting cross-cultural cooperation through art. LI EDELKOORT Studying the links between art, fashion, design and consumer culture, Lidewij Edelkoort’s work has pioneered trend-forecasting as a profession, providing design and lifestyle analysis for the world’s leading brands. In 2008, the French Ministry of Culture honoured her as a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and the Dutch Royal Family named her a Knight in the Order of Oranje Nassau. At Meet d3, she will be conducting a masterclass called ‘Artisan Ateliers’ and a presentation called ‘Vanities: Spring Summer 2016’, both at the ‘Not Just A Label’ pavilion. EBON HEATH Brooklyn native and Berlin resident, Ebon Heath, is known for literally playing with words; creating mesmerizing typographic structures that bring the poetry of our lives into the third dimension. At Meet d3, a brand new suspended artwork by Ebon will be unveiled: a metallic word cloud in English and Arabic that represents a visual conversation between global and local voices. The words used in the structure are from the poem, “On Beauty” by Kahlil Gibran. Experience design through interactive installations, live art, exhibitions, screenings and workshops. 6 TAHIR SULTAN Kuwaiti fashion designer, Tahir Sultan, plans on implementing a region-centric project that deals with culture, history, identity and popular modern culture. A state-of-the-art blue Bedouin tent created by over 750 artisans, conveys both form and function and adds a modern element to what is both historical and traditional. The use of a tent, a common regional symbol for safety, refuge and shelter, is intended to act as a metaphor for great and captivating cities today. 7 ART & DESIGN ART & DESIGN SILSAL DESIGN SUPER STUDIO There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. Step into the world of Silsal Design House (SDH) and allow your fashionable imagination to wander. Featuring two main areas – a living room and a dining room – the SDH pavilion invites trend-watchers to be the first to preview its new furniture line, which will be available to shoppers by mid-April 2015. The company will further be displaying its rapidly growing collection of homeware accessories – including dinnerware, serveware and tabletop accents – which blend innovative designs with premium quality. Founded in 2012 by Mohsin Jawaheri; superstudio represents award-winning iconic furniture, lighting, accessories and specialized materials recognized by designers globally. superstudio is generously providing premium furniture by Magis and lighting by Davide Groppi for different sites throughout Meet d3 GHAITH&JAD The ‘Projection Lines’ installation, designed by Beirut-based architecture and design studio GHAITH&JAD, presents itself as an interactive spatial experience within the Meet d3 event. With their intervention, the architects aim to celebrate discovery, spatial construction and human curiosity though a space that never reveals its surreal and distorted path to anyone but those who go through it. The space always awaits the motion of a person to reveal its narrative of a million compositions, making it a performance space always perceived through experience and not through documentation. WINK Wink Space is a one-of-a-kind, modern marvel of architecture and design, conceived and constructed by architects Masakazu Shirane and Saya Miyazaki of Tokyo, Japan. Wink Space utilizes the world’s first zipper architecture. Flat, hard, mirrored panels of varying sizes and triangular in shape are connected by zipper, and through the use of small suspension cables, it is shaped by the architects through an origami-like process of folding and distributing tension. Any single triangular panel may be removed by simply unzipping it from its surrounding panels, thus creating a window at any point along the space, allowing the inside and outside worlds to “wink” at one another. MOCHILLA CINEMA AKIL X GAZETTE Mochilla is made up of Eric Coleman and Brian Cross (aka B+), a duo that has produced several highly acclaimed independent projects over the last ten years, including Keepintime, Brasilintime and the Timeless event series in Los Angeles. Cinema Akil x Gazette will be screening “Life Eraser” and “Hot Dollar” starring Tilda Swinton from the Simulacrum & Hyperbole series by British artist Katerina Jebb. In these films, Jebb challenges her feminine icons in unexpected and intimate scenarios, unraveling seemingly improvised rants that in fact point to a carefully crafted monologue of epic proportions. Jebb’s sardonic tale of women questions art, commerce and the complex battle between ego and id. The films will be screened every night from April 2-4, 2015 from 7-10pm as part of ‘Meet d3’.
