Dear Potential Delegate, Speaker, Sponsor and/or Exhibitor
Thank you for your interest in the Southern African Metals and Engineering Indaba, a two-day
conference which will change the face of the sector in the region.
Organised and brought to you by the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern
Africa (SEIFSA), which has been the proud representative of the sector over the past 71 years,
the inaugural Southern African Metals and Engineering Indaba (SA MEI) will take place on 28-29
May 2015 at Emperor’s Palace Hotel, close to the OR Tambo International Airport. It will bring
together experienced business owners, business leaders and executives, entrepreneurs, policy and
decision makers as well as investors in a conference that is certain to become a major feature on
the calendar of the steel and engineering sector in the Southern African Development Community.
It is unfortunate that hitherto there has not been a significant, annual conference that affords so
important a sector – that supplies the auto manufacturing, construction and mining industries – an
opportunity to reflect critically on itself and the state of manufacturing in the region. It is fitting
that, building on its 71-year legacy, SEIFSA should take the initiative to correct that situation.
Apart from representing our members in wage negotiations, SEIFSA offers much-needed products
and services, including consulting, in a variety of areas like Economics and Commercial (our
Price and Index Pages Handbook is without peer), Legal; Industrial Relations; Skills Development
and Human Capital; as well as Health, Safety, Environment and Quality. We also represent the
sector on various business and industry bodies like Business Unity South Africa, the National
Economic, Development and Labour Council, the Metal Industries Benefit Funds Administrators, the
Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Seta and the Metal and Engineering Industries
Bargaining Council, among others.
