FROM THE HILLS
I want to wish every one of you a happy Fourth of July weekend. I want all you to end up at the club of
choice, RHCC, and to have the best time possible. This month seems almost inactive to me. We don’t punch
the greens, fairways or tees. We just maintain. What I mean by that is there aren’t any specific cultural practices that take up an inordinate amount of time translating into many man hours. This gives your staff more
time to make progress. As I have stated earlier in this column, we will be concentrating on sodding imperfections, working to improve drainage and replacing wooden curbs with stone. I jumped a head a little by taking
the #18 green curb instead of continuing the south to northward movement since the stone curb work began.
After finishing the ninth tee, we started the long stretch from behind the sixth tee down to the fourteenth tee.
Just after this stretch is completed, the curb adjacent to the fifth green will get underway. Next on the curb list
is the small flower bed at sixteen tee followed by the curb on the right side of the path on five tee.
Sod wise, we will be splitting time between the greenside intermediates, that area between the collar and the
primary rough and the low areas in the fairways. The only difference is the height of cut. Intermediate rough
replacement will be done with some of the commercially grown sod while the smaller repaired areas in the
fairways will come from our own zoysia sod nurseries.
Drainage will be in the form of some smaller projects. First on the list was the drainage to the right of #2
green. Right behind that one will be the regrading of the area adjacent to the drop inlet on #14 fairway. Next
on the list is working on the wet ground adjacent to the left of #16 green and behind the eighteenth green.
This particular category also includes the repair of sink holes. As of right now, hole #7 needs quite a bit of
work with many smaller holes that will be completed before moving on to the next one on the list.
The flowers continue to mature and improve. I am liking my choices for this year but am always looking for
your input as to your comments or preferences.
On the reminder front, I am including the rake placement diagram that attempts to imprint in your mind the
proper rake placement after having raked your tracks when exiting a bunker. I am also including the ball mark
repair diagram. Those ball marks disappear after a couple of days when fixed in a proper, timely manner.
That is basically our July agenda. However, one thing that your staff is, is flexible. We can easily change the
order of things. Green committee meetings help prioritize all that we do but sometime those priorities change
so I won’t carve anything in stone at this early date.
Brad Coole, CGCS

We are entering the heart of the season, and will kick-off July with our July 4th Weekend Tournaments. We will host three one-day
events - play in one or all. Call the Golf Shop to make your tee times.
The monthly Friday Night Couples tournament will be Friday, July 10th. Make your own foursome and be ready to play at 5:30,
with dinner & fun following your round.
The Men’s Senior Club Championship will expand to 36 Holes this year, scheduled for Saturday, July 11 th and Sunday, July 12th.
Flighted by age, gross and net winners in each division.
Ladies don’t forget about the new Thursday Night Women’s Golf League. Every Friday at 5:30pm come play 9 holes, no tournaments, just fun! Call the golf shop to sign-up that day.
Please help us!! Read the Dress Code Policy on the website or in your handbook - All members and guests are required to dress in
good taste, and in a manner befitting the dignity of the Club. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that those playing golf with
each of us should be told if they are wearing inappropriate attire. Please remember to discuss our dress code policy with your
guests to avoid embarrassment to you and/or your guest!
Don’t forget to call ahead and make a tee time, we want to be able to provide you with the best experience possible each time you
come out. By making a tee time you help us do that!
Hope to see you soon,
Brian Jones, PG

flags will be flying reminding us of our freedom. At Rolling Hills we will be flying our flags on the greens
reminding us that we are “home free”- At least for that hole!! In either case– we are proud to be an
American and proud of our membership as an 18 Hole Lady golfer!
Again this is the “SNACK, CRACKEL and POP” month. Snap into action, fire up your enthusiasm and
pop that ball a mile down the fairway! We have a “HOT” schedule this month.

We will play “Beat The Pro” on the 28th and the Sparks always fly on that day! So get Hot and win
some of these fun games this July.
A great Big Thank You to Cindy Nevins and her committee for a very successful ParTee in June. Our
Combo Classic was a sell out as over 100 ladies played and “parteed” on our course and in the club house
for a great buffet. Wonderful prizes and what fun seeing so many old friends from many clubs in the tristate. Some said that they couldn’t wait to come back next year!! What a compliment for our girls and
the staff here at Rolling Hills!
July is the mid-month of our schedule and we are moving right along enjoying each Tuesday together. Our games should be improving and we should begin to sparkle with added energy by now! And
then some may have fizzled a little and need to Fire up this month! At any rate—enjoy the Fireworks, Fly
your Flags and wear your Red, White and Blue on the 7th! You know you will Pop Up as the winner if you
are picked as the “ Best Fire Cracker” of the Day!! Have a Safe 4th, keep the Peace and above all Feel Free
to love one another!
