I want all you to end up at the club of choice, RHCC, and to have the best time possible. This month seems almost inactive to me. We don’t punch the greens, fairways or tees. We just maintain. What I mean by that is there aren’t any specific cultural practices that take up an inordinate amount of time translating into many man hours. This gives your staff more time to make progress. As I have stated earlier in this column, we will be concentrating on sodding imperfections, working to improve drainage and replacing wooden curbs with stone. I jumped a head a little by taking the #18 green curb instead of continuing the south to northward movement since the stone curb work began. After finishing the ninth tee, we started the long stretch from behind the sixth tee down to the fourteenth tee. Just after this stretch is completed, the curb adjacent to the fifth green will get underway. Next on the curb list is the small flower bed at sixteen tee followed by the curb on the right side of the path on five tee. Sod wise, we will be splitting time between the greenside intermediates, that area between the collar and the primary rough and the low areas in the fairways. The only difference is the height of cut. Intermediate rough replacement will be done with some of the commercially grown sod while the smaller repaired areas in the fairways will come from our own zoysia sod nurseries. Drainage will be in the form of some smaller projects. First on the list was the drainage to the right of #2 green. Right behind that one will be the regrading of the area adjacent to the drop inlet on #14 fairway. Next on the list is working on the wet ground adjacent to the left of #16 green and behind the eighteenth green. This particular category also includes the repair of sink holes. As of right now, hole #7 needs quite a bit of work with many smaller holes that will be completed before moving on to the next one on the list. The flowers continue to mature and improve. I am liking my choices for this year but am always looking for your input as to your comments or preferences. On the reminder front, I am including the rake placement diagram that attempts to imprint in your mind the proper rake placement after having raked your tracks when exiting a bunker. I am also including the ball mark repair diagram. Those ball marks disappear after a couple of days when fixed in a proper, timely manner. That is basically our July agenda. However, one thing that your staff is, is flexible. We can easily change the order of things. Green committee meetings help prioritize all that we do but sometime those priorities change so I won’t carve anything in stone at this early date. Brad Coole, CGCS NEXT TEE NEXTON ON THE THE TEE We are entering the heart of the season, and will kick-off July with our July 4th Weekend Tournaments.
