Grass Season Begins

Grass Season Begins
The grass court season began early this year with 44 children from 6 local
schools playing mini-red tennis at Cromer.
Our wonderful grounds men, Jordy & Peter allowed the children to play on the
bottom flat on their fabulous grass courts. They were all suitably impressed.
With help from Martin Lovell and Nick Amis, we spent a lovely afternoon
helping with scoring and generally having fun with loads of enthusiastic
children.
Despite very changeable weather, the city league & north Norfolk league
matches are underway mostly played on the grass although some of us have
had to make do with the omni’s when it was raining.
Our head coach, Chris Cash completed the London Marathon and will be
running in the Nottingham marathon shortly. He’s got better legs than most of
us.
Steve Lowe has been co-opted onto the committee as the tennis co-ordinator
for the club. Steve will be dealing with all aspects of tennis for the club and its
members.
Eight intrepid ladies travelled to Gresham’s for our annual competition against
the girls. We narrowly won by a short head and I will be asking our lady
members to play in the rematch at Cromer in the very near future. Please, if
you can, sign up for this rematch as the girls were very disappointed so many
of our top players were not able to play.
We are now gearing up for the tournaments and you will have received emails
informing you of the appointment of Cathy Seville as our tournament catering
manager.
Cathy did a wonderful job last year in the kitchen and has agreed to do the
catering for all three tournament weeks this year.
Cathy is asking all club members for help with cake making and help with
manning the kitchen during these weeks. Signup sheets are on the table in the
club house and we will inform all our cake makers when ingredients are
available to be picked up at the club.
The more money we make during these weeks the more the club can do to
improve facilities at the club.
We are waiting to hear if our request for a grant from the Big Society Fund will
be approved. The grant, if we get it will be used to improve the table tennis
facilities by removing the tin shed used to store patio furniture and replacing
that with a new wooden building which will butt up to the existing table tennis
room.
This will enlarge the table tennis room, doubling the space we can then use for
table tennis, zumba, pilates & other functions.
Keep everything crossed folks that we can achieve this plan as it will mean our
valuable table tennis members will at long last be able to host more league
matches in comfort. At least they would not freeze in the winter any more.
Our quiz nights will end at the end of June until the 25th of September for the
summer so please do come along on the 5th & 26th June for the last two of this
summer.
We are hoping to run the club’s annual tennis tournament soon so look out for
poster and emails announcing the dates.
Finally, all members are reminded that today is the last day that your 2014 –
2015 membership cards are valid so if you have not renewed your membership
and wish to do so, please do so as quickly as possible otherwise you may be
asked to pay non-members rates to play.
See you on court.
