Winner of Mercer March Madness: J.K. Rowling!
J.K. Rowling, author of the famous Harry Potter series, has
been dubbed Mercer’s favorite author after winning against
Charles Dickens in the library March Madness bracket. Rowling beat out 15 other authors for the crown. Thank you for voting and letting Mercer know that young adults have a say in
choosing the best of the best authors!
Poetry @ the Library!
Celebrate your love of poetry all month long at the library. Hang out in the teen section to make blackout
poetry. All you need to do is take a page from a discarded book, read it over for words that stand out to
you, and black out the rest of the text so you’re left
with a unique poem that’s all your own. For more info
on blackout poetry, visit Newspaper Blackout.
Celebrate National Library Week!
The American Library Association is celebrating National Library Week from April 12-19,
2015, and this year’s theme is “Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library.” Public libraries depend on the support of patrons and users who check out books, use computers, attend
programs, search for information on computers, download digital e-books and audio
books, and so much more!
Here are some things you can do to support the library:

Join the Friends of the Library

Learn about how libraries are funded

Write letters to your political leaders to express the importance of the library

Volunteer at the library

Make a donation to the library

Bring your friends and families to the library for materials and programs
Do you have something awesome you want to
contribute?

whole days of celebrating beautiful
words and powerful feelings. Even
though we enjoy that getting all that
emotion out of our systems and onto
paper, sometimes it can be difficult to
figure out what you want to say or how
to start writing. If you want to experiment with poetry and are unsure how
to do so or if you want to challenge
yourself with new ideas, visit Pongo
