Attention Parents:
We are winding down with the number of school days left. Please help us
to start each day with having your students here on time. The first bell is
at 8:30 and students need to be in their classrooms at 8:40. We are also
asking that they wear proper footwear to keep them safe at recess and PE
class. Students wearing sandals will not be allowed to participate in PE
class. We appreciate your assistance with these items as we finish the
school year.
Join the Corps! We are now recruiting Reading and Math Corps tutors for the 2015-16
school year. If anyone is looking to explore a career in education, is a
recent college graduate, is a retired educator, is ready to re-enter the
workforce, or is simply looking for rewarding work with children; they may
be the perfect candidate. We are looking for people dedicated to our
community. Please look for more information on the district employment
page and the Middleton website, contact Sara Palodichuk at 651-768-4903,
or visit the website www.serveminnesota.org. All necessary training is
provided and no licensure is necessary. Dear Middleton families,
For those of you who do not know me, I am the school social worker here at
Middleton…AKA.. Mrs. D…the Feelings Teacher.” I have had the absolute pleasure
and honor to serve students and families here for the past 21 years. I have often joked
with parents and staff saying that I would retire here with my long gray braid and
walking stick that doubled as a “talking stick.” Middleton has been my second home
and my second family and is a huge part of my heart. Because of this, I am writing this
letter today with mixed emotions. I have decided to take a school social worker
position at Armstrong Elementary School. This was a difficult decision for a number of
reasons. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Middleton. There are so many
reasons to stay here for the long term, and yet the reasons for leaving have won over
at this point. I have been the District Mental Health Social Work Lead for several years
and also have a Private Practice. Working at Armstrong will allow me to flex my time
so that I can continue to do work at a macro level as well as continue to work directly
with students, staff and parents and be a “well-balanced” mom and wife to my amazing
family.
Alicia Newman, who is the current School Social Worker at Armstrong will actually be
replacing me at Middleton. We will be doing a job swap in a sense. She is skilled
social worker and an absolute gem as a person. She will be so fortunate to join this
community. The staff, students, and parents in our school community are fantastic and
I have made so many memories with so many along the way. The most important
attribute to this great school has always been the students. I am very proud of our
students and it will be difficult talking with them in the coming weeks about my decision
to move to Armstrong.
Thank you all for your support throughout the past years. It seems surreal to think that I
won’t be coming back in the fall, but I will be sure to visit. Considering I live here in
Woodbury and my own daughters attend school in this district, I am sure I will see
many of you around town; stores, soccer fields, school and community theater events
and possibly walking around Colby Lake to name a few. I will forever cherish the time
I have spent with your children and hope that they will always remember “Mrs. D.”
Last advice from me to you (and from me to me J): model and provide opportunities
for your child to breathe, have fun, have a manageable “life plate” and give their best
effort on a daily basis, whatever the results that come from it. Live each day to the
fullest and always remember that if we stay calm and really think through and talk
through problems in life, we can make it through anything together!
Warmly and Respectfully,
Tara Dahlager
Greetings from Your Middleton PTO, WalkAThon is NEXT Friday. Donations are rolling in! Thank you to those that have already returned envelopes. Envelopes will be collected all next week and are due by next Thursday, May 21st. A $20 donation will get your child a Stampede to the Playground water bottle. For EVERY $50 they raise, they’ll be entered into a drawing for a Kindle Fire HD7. If every child in our school raises just $20, that would be $16,000 directly to our playground. Come on, Middleton—together we can do GREAT things! The WalkAThon is Friday, May 22nd, during students’ specialist hour. Parents, Grandparents & other special to your child grownups are welcome to walk with their student or to just observe. It’s going to be a lot of fun! From our Bookfair Coordinator, Kris Prokopec-‐-‐ The last Scholastic Book Fair of the year starts Monday May 18th, and ends Friday May 22nd. It is the BOGO book fair, so everything is buy one, get one free. It is held in the Media Center from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm each day of that week. It is a great opportunity to stock up on books for the summer! We are of course still looking for volunteers to staff our BOGO book fair. Please see if you can help out for a shift or two, it would be very appreciated! Our BOGO book fair was very successful last year, but we can't succeed without our wonderful volunteers! The signup can be found here http://www.signupgenius.com/go/409084ca8ad28a13-‐middleton . Additionally, if you are looking for an idea for a teacher gift, there is a downloadable certificate to present to your teacher. Just download the flyer and send in cash or check for the desired amount, or stop by the book fair and pay for the certificate, and present the certificate to your teacher and show them some love! Any purchase they would make with the certificate would also be BOGO. We are again partnering with School Toolbox to offer school supply boxes. Online ordering is available now and will be available until the last day of school. Your school toolbox will be available for pickup at next year’s back to school open house. School Toolbox’s website is www.schooltoolbox.com. On the left side of the page you’ll see a link to “pre built boxes”. Enter our zip code and Middleton will come up in your list. A few more clicks and your school supply shopping will be done! J Mindi & Amanda www.yourmiddletonPTO.org Upcoming dates May 18th-‐22nd May 22nd th
