We express our gratitude to the optometric community...
Since its inception in 1992 by the Miami Dade Optometric Physicians Association (MDOPA), the
Heiken Children's Vision Program has provided free comprehensive eye examinations and eyeglasses
to low-income schoolchildren who had no other source for vision care. The program was started by
MDOPA members who were concerned about the number of children failing school vision screenings
but not receiving follow-up eye care because of financial need. Our Heiken Program ensures that
schoolchildren who have no insurance will no longer have to struggle because of uncorrected vision
problems, which usually are easily corrected.
