We should place demands on our acoustic environment as we are affected by it more than we think. With our wall panel systems, we give you the opportunity to create an effective acoustic treatment to walls. We know that good acoustics should not only meet the requirements of the ear but also the eye. (As the first choice in creating a good acoustic environment,) We always recommend a wall-to-wall ceiling; however we also recognise that this is not always possible or sufficient to create the sound environment required. To complement our ceiling systems, we offer acoustic wall panels that reduce noise, increase speech clarity and minimise sound propagation. What types of activities should the room support? To create a good acoustic environment we must pinpoint the sound preferences for a particular activity and see how the room can match these criteria. Sound is multidimensional. This means that you should use multiple descriptors for it. Ecophon has developed a concept that gives advice on what should be considered in order to create a sound environment in different types of room. This concept is called Room Acoustic Comfort™. It includes a number of parameters that are important to provide a more nuanced description of the sound environment and therefore recommend solutions that best suit a specific room. For more information on Room Acoustic Comfort™ see www.ecophon.com Aesthetics play an important role It is not just noise and the sound environment that affect our well being. Aesthetics and design also play an important role. To bring excitement and ambience to a room we have put together a wide offer of colours and patterns on our wall panels that not only are beautiful but also an expressive function. RD IC ECOL A 310 007 4 B EL NO A sound environment indoors and out doors Ecophon Wall Panel meet the requirements of several eco-labels and marks of quality. Some of them are gathered below. A good sound environment with Ecophon Wall Panel A wall-to-wall ceiling is by far the most effective acoustic treatment of a room. In many cases this is also an adequate solution to create good room acoustics; but there are situations where this is not sufficient or possible. The reasons for this can be anything from technical to aesthetical. One way to improve the acoustic environment in such cases is to install acoustic wall panels. Ecophon Wall Panel provide class A sound absorption in flexible formats and colours. The range gives you the possibility to design the sound environment according to your taste and preference. The acoustic effect of wall panels In a room where understanding of speech is essential, the criteria related to speech clarity is very important, while in rooms with noisy activities, you should focus on criteria related to noise reduction, such as sound strength. Four rooms – four solutions Dependant upon the particular activity in a room we recommend varying amounts of sound absorption. In modern teaching learning is based on both independent and group work an acoustically this poses a challenge to the rooms acoustic design. By fitting wall panels to two adjacent walls speech remains only in the vicinity of the people it is intended for and can be heard more clearly. In sports halls there is often a high sound level, therefore it is recommended that wall panels are placed on as much available wall area as possible to reduce sound levels. In open-plan offices the acoustic challenge is often related to the distance voices and conversations travel and how disturbing this is. By installing wall panels alongside desk areas one can shorten the distance the noise travels. In hospitals sound affects our healing process. Therefore it is important to minimise the sound of various activities and people in constant movement. By installing wall panels one can improve both speech clarity and confidentiality between doctor and patient. Rule of thumb – placement and quantity of wall panels • By fitting wall panels to two adjacent walls, speech clarity is enhanced for those close by. It is recommended that a distance of about 1 metre is maintained between the wall panel and the person´s head. • Place the wall panel at the height of the ear and mouth of people within the space. • For educational rooms the most effective range of coverage of wall panels is in the range of 10-25% of the floor area. • To increase speech clarity and reduce reverberation time in smaller rooms such as dining rooms, meeting rooms, wall panel coverage should make up 8-13% of the floor area. (plus a ceiling) 6 1) Ceiling 2a) Short wall 2b) Long wall Find out more of the acoustic effects of wall panels in our knowledge guide Acoustic design with wall acoustic solutions. You find it on www.ecophon. com/download. In cellular offices wall panels can remove unwanted flutter echo and allow speech to be heard more clearly. In open-plan offices wall panels installed along the workplaces at a height of a sitting person will contribute to preventing sound from propagating over long distances and help to create a calm environment. Conversations and other sounds stay close to their sources rather than spreading to the ends of the room. Higher acoustic demands are needed when more noise is generated. In group oriented teaching an efficient amount of wall panel is in the range of 10 to 25 % of the floor area depending on if the acoustical demands require one or two walls to be treated with wall panels. In sport halls wall panels are an efficient complement to a suspended absorbent ceiling. The wall panels should preferably be located as close to the sound sources as possible, however these should be installed above two meters from the floor to avoid potential impact damage. In health care environments there is a need to create calm and stress free environments which contribute to patient recovery and staff wellbeing and working performance. Acoustic conditions are an essential factor within this. Installing wall panels in corridors, reception areas and wards one can prevent sound from spreading and increase patient confidentiality. 7 Texona Colour and texture according to your wishes and needs 8 T lours t ex F 9 co A ku lis Mura patte rn co llectio n 3 colours Super G urs colo 16 Akutex™ FT This surface comes in nine colours inspired by nature. A wide profile assortment provide many possibilites Ecophon Wall Panel can be installed in many different ways. They can be divided into smaller fields to create different patterns. They may be mounted from ceiling to floor to create a uniform wall, both vertically and horizontally, or you can choose to use them as single point installations. Ecophon Wall Panel offers several options for mounting thanks to the Connect profile systems. Two innovations in the profile range are Connect™ Thinline and Connect™ Structure profile. Discrete framing Connect Thinline is the name of our latest aluminum profile. An elegant solution where the edge radius of the frame (≥ 2mm) is based on the references from the obligatory demands of the german accident prevention regulations (Unfallverhütungsvorschriften). This makes it suitable for use in nurseries and schools. Profiles and corners are available in two standard matt colours. Connect™ Structure profile is a lacquered aluminum profile that makes it possible to install the panels vertically and horizontally within a single framework as shown on page 15. Create fields Connect Structure profile together with Connect Thinline offers the opportunity to create framed colour - and pattern boxes within the wall panels. This solution is inspired by the artist Mondriaan and influenced by traditional Japanese architecture. The solution also gives you opportunity to work with longer installations of wall panels and it solves the meeting between edge A and edge C if you prefer such a combination. A well defined frame Connect WP profile is a robust profile solution that creates a clear frame around the wall panel. The system contains both inner and outer corners that offer freedom to work with contours and can be combined with the matt painted profile available in white, black and natural aluminium. Work with colourfields and patterns in a solution influenced by the traditional Japanese architecture.
