ENGLISH FIRST LANGUAGE
Reading Passages

Pupils select and organize material for answering questions.

They write information in a more concise form, taking care
to use own words.

Pupils take note of command words in the question, to
ensure the correct and precise response.

Pupils will attempt and practice past year IGCSE papers.

Directed writing

Pupils continue further practice on presenting and
transforming information, with particular emphasis on
persuasive style of writing.

Pupils will continue to: write dialogue, friendly letter,
complaint letter, advice letter, speech, newspaper report
and magazine article.

They will practice past year IGCSE papers.
Continuous Writing

Pupils continue with further practice of the skills of
Descriptive Writing: To develop ideas and images, to
describe complex atmospheres with
a range of details.
They are to provide an overall structure, through devices
such as movements of the writer, or the creation of
atmosphere or tension.

Next, pupils will explore and come up with ideas for
Narrative Writing. The specific tasks that they will learn
are how to create an appropriate setting, original plot and
life-like characters.

Pupils will attempt and practice exam-style essay topics.
