Internship Announcement Position: Education Intern, Summer 2015 Hours and compensation: MIM will work with Interns to create a schedule that fits the needs of both the student and the department. Interns will be compensated at the current minimum wage. Looking for interns to fulfill approximately 20 hours per week. Schedule is flexible but intern must be available starting May 25th and during the month of June. Some weekend work will be required. Position Summary: MIM seeks an intern to work alongside its Education team. Education interns gain a better understanding of the way museum education enhances the experience of the guests; they also experience the satisfaction of making an important contribution to MIM’s educational mission. Education interns will be involved in a variety of programs and areas to get a wide experience of the types of activities involved in running successful museum education programs. Responsibilities: Assist with facilitating summer camp Assist with facilitating summer programs Independently plan and facilitate at least one Education public program/summer camp activity Participate in the planning and implementation of summer museum-wide events Perform administrative duties as needed relating to education events and programs Qualifications: Current student enrolled in accredited degree program, preferably in music, history, or museum studies. Graduate students preferred; recent graduates (less than 12 months since receiving degree) may also apply. Well-organized, detail oriented, creative and resourceful, with strong problem solving skills Energetic, cheerful, and willing to learn about musical instruments and world cultures Must enjoy working with people and be willing to become actively involved in the programs of the Museum Must be interested in working with children and/or the general public and must be comfortable speaking to groups of adults and children Must possess a professional attitude and be able to work well in a team Educational Objectives: Gain hands-on experience in informal education and summer camp in a museum setting Strengthen understanding of successful museum education programs Become familiar with non-profit, and specifically museum, administration practices Improve written and oral communication skills Qualified candidates should click on the link below to apply, uploading resume and cover letter.
