The weather is geLng warmer and the golf course is greening up so please come out aand
nd enjoy the beau:ful seLng. Due to a very cold February and some cold snaps in Life
Events
at
early March, tHills
he bermudagrass green up was very sluggish this spring. Shady areas and Mimosa
north facing slopes will take a while to green up and there is poten:al for some areas to not survive. Unfortunately, this is the nature of the beast in the golf business that exists in tM
he a‘transi:on y 2 0 1 z4one’ where we have cool and warm season grasses side by side. We will keep monitoring the situa:on as May progresses. The greens are in excellent condi:on with the root system very strong. This is a testament to our aerifica:on and topdressing program to maintain the organic ma^er content to USGA recommended levels. The May aerifica:on is scheduled for the week of May 11, so please check with the Pro Shop for which holes are open for play (828-‐437-‐1246). This date is very important for summer heat survival. An aerifica:on hole filled with sand allows for air exchange thus the release of a build up of high soil temperatures. Proper drainage is also a^ained cri:cal in minimizing disease. Keep in mind that the healing :me for the greens is very rapid this :me of year due to ideal growing condi:ons. Please remember to fill your tee or fairway divots when sand is available or you can beat the divot in from all direc:ons with your iron. Actually, doing that first then lightly sanding is the ideal method. The proper method for repairing the ball marks is to have the necessary repair tool and push in and forward in all direc:ons then tapping smooth with your pu^er. LiIing upwards can damage roots and hinder recovery. Please be considerate of the golfers behind you and maintenance expenses and rake the bunkers aIer entering. Thank you for your help and please enjoy our beau:ful golf course. It is truly a gem to take pride in. -‐Dan Winters Superintendent www.mimosahills.org Pool News & Membership: MIMOSA

I am playing with my brother, David, in the Member-‐Member tournament, and my first order of business was to increase our handicaps by a factor of 3. I think we are in great shape to win this year! In other exci:ng news: our membership is growing at an impressive rate. You are doing a great job. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for helping us communicate the many compelling benefits that Mimosa Hills offers to local golfers and families. Keep up the great work and bring a friend out for a round or lunch. Remember, it’s a great :me of year to join Mimosa. The course is in amazing shape and the new Bar & Grill area is open for business. Not to men:on that summer and swim season is right around the corner. I hope to see you out on the course soon and please contact me if you have any ques:ons regarding the 2015 marke:ng plan or if you would like to join Stacey Ripley, David Benne^, John Branstrom, Leanne Bri^ain, Don McGinnis and myself on the membership commi^ee. Dear Fellow Members: April has come and gone, but the Tournaments at our Club are just geLng started. In April, we hosted the ASU Ladies Tournament and CGA Senior 4 Ball. Our very own Brian Reep and his partner Jim Johnson won the Low Gross with a one day total of 65. Way to go Brian! Incidentally, they were one spot out of being the Low Net winners as well. Their Net Score was 65. We had a great Easter Dogfight turnout on Friday, April 3rd. The Inaugural Mimosa Cup was contested April 18th (shortened to one day due to weather) with the pairings party on Friday evening, April 17th. Each player received a team color cap as the teams and matches were revealed. The heckling started on Friday night and lasted throughout the day Saturday. This was a great new event and we encourage you to play next year! Congratula:ons to the Blue Team Captain Jimmy Piercy and his team that consisted of Goeff Messenheimer, Jim Cornelison, John Sallstrom, Marty Sohovich, Chris Bri^ain, John Greene Jr., Chester Ragland, Ben Sholar, Kelly Snipes, Bill Beu^ell, Adam Beu^ell and Handley Fincher. The morning matches ended in a :e so a :e breaker match ensued. Ben Sholar drained a 14' birdie try on hole #3 to clinch the match for the Blue Team. Looking ahead… Member-‐Member is May 2nd and 3rd. Sign-‐up sheets were included with the statement mailer for April. Please contact the Pro Shop quickly if you intend to play and have not yet signed up. May 9th is the first of our special One Day Events. It is the 2 person Captain's Choice/Reverse Scramble format with 9 holes each. The Mimosa Hills Parent /Child is early in June this year. It will be played on June 7th. We moved the date up to encourage more juniors to play and "catch the golf bug" so they have more of the season remaining. Lastly, the Men's Member-‐Guest is June 12th-‐14th. Sign-‐ups will be included in the May statement mailer. Please sign up early. This year's format is the Match Around with 3 matches on Saturday and 2 matches on Sunday, followed by the Super Shootout to determine the overall winner. The Par 3 Shoot Out will be Saturday night followed by Ladies Only PuLng Contest, and then dinner and live music in the club house. The par:cipant giI this year is a Ye: Sports Pack, Under Armor Logo Shirt, and a Logo Cap for each member and guest that par:cipates. Look forward to seeing you on the course!
