MARMARA UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING EE202 Circuit Theory II Laboratory 2 In this experiment AC input voltage will be rectified and DC output voltage will be obtained. Preliminary Work 1. Set the circuit given in Figure 1 in MultiSIM and observe the waveform by an oscilloscope. Repeat the experiment by changing the frequency of the input voltage as 10kHz, 100kHz and 1MHz. Then, observe the output waveform for 1kHz input voltage by using the resistance and capacitance values given below: R1: 100, 10k, 100k; C1: 1nF, 100nF, 10mF XSC1 Ext T rig + _ B A D1 V1 _ + _ + 1N4001 R1 1kΩ 1 Vpk 1kHz 0° C1 100pF Figure 1: An illustration of a half-wave rectifier circuit 2. Implement the circuit given in Figure 2 in MultiSIM and obtain the waveform across the the capacitor. Repeat the experiment by changing the frequency, resistance and capacitance values as in first part of the preliminary work. Observe the AC signal on the rectified waveform over the capacitor, then report the Vp-p value of the ripple voltage. Design a rectifier circuit in Figure 3 to supress the ripple voltage measured over the capacitor. Assemble the circuit given in Figure 1, and obtain the waveforms over resistor as in the first part of the preliminary work. 2. Assemble the circuit given in Figure 2, and obtain the waveforms over capacitor as in the second part of the preliminary work. 3. Assemble the circuit you design in third part of the preliminary work. Show that the ripple voltage is supressed. Conclusions and Comments 1. Explain the differences between the waveforms obtained in first and second parts of the experimental work. 2. Comment on the effect of changing capacitance and resistance values on the observed waveforms in the first and second parts of the experimental work. 3. Discuss the effect of the designed rectifier circuit on the observed waveform over the capacitor in Figure 3. Please note that, you should bring your preliminary work report to the laboratory. The ones do not prepare the preliminary work report will not allow to attend to the laboratory.
