Job Description Grant Writer/Coordinator Grant Writer/Coordinator The Grant Writer/Coordinator is primarily responsible for developing and writing grant proposals to potential funders such as corporations, foundations and philanthropic individuals, as well as stewardship reports. The Coordinator will persuasively communicate MindFuel’s mission, vision and programs to potential funders and agency stakeholders. Reporting to the Director, Development and Community Engagement, the Grant Writer/Coordinator will assemble and submit funding requests, conduct prospect research, and maintain a calendar of submissions and reporting deadlines. The Coordinator will provide support with communications outside of the Resource Development department. Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundations, corporations, philanthropic individuals and other sources. Perform prospect research and evaluation on funding sources to establish priorities. Comply with all reporting as required by foundations, corporate and other funders. Assist with fundraising activities at MindFuel, including: funder stewardship delivery; gift acquisitions and renewals; identifying new growth opportunities; and maintaining continuous updates on status and progress of grant applications to ensure ‘funding’ funnel is transparent. Prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation for major gifts, corporate giving and in‐kind resources. Assist with development and maintenance of an appropriate file organization system. Provide development input for all MindFuel materials. Prepare written and oral communication for other agency departments. Assist with building and maintaining relationships between MindFuel and funders. Assist with securing funds for MindFuel programs. Prepare and manage timelines and content for proposals and provide potential funders with appropriate, well‐researched and customized gift opportunities in collaboration with other MindFuel departments. Track statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for funder stewardship (relevant user metrics, etc.). Assist with other fundraising projects as requested. Assist with the creation of internal fundraising policies, procedures and templates as required. Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals tailored to funders’ goals and vision. The ability to develop messaging for different target audiences, including foundations, corporations, philanthropic individuals; and product users. Strong editing skills. Self‐starter and problem solver with excellent attention to detail. Ability to motivate, persuade and inspire people. Ability to manage (plan, organize and implement) projects with deliverables met on time. Astute listener, respectful, and ability to deal with confidential information. Ability and willingness to focus on funder‐centered communications and respond effectively to funder expectations. Ability to handle multiple tasks with competing deadlines in a fast paced environment. Strong contributor in team environments. Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospects. Experience working in deadline‐driven environments. Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. A member with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) would be considered an asset. Knowledgeable about sponsorship fulfillment, funder cultivation and stewardship. Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. A firm understanding of the legal aspects of charitable giving, tax receipting, and compliance with CRA regulations. Experience with CRM system(s). Must be able to pass Criminal Security Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check. Experience 3‐5 years’ experience in grant writing Relationship building and support in sponsorship & gift solicitation in both the public and private sectors. Related post‐secondary degree.
