WHAT IS A
RAINFOREST?
There is a place that is near the equator. The rainforest! The rainforest is really humid.Humid means it is
very muggy. It also rains a lot in the rainforest. It rains
up to 30 feet a year in some rain forests. The season in
the rainforest is aways summer. There are a lot of animals and plants in the rainforest Did you know that
some of the food we eat comes from rainforest?

LAYERS OF THE
RAINFOREST
There is 4 layers in the rainforest. The first layer is the emergent layer. The emergent layer is the top layer. The top
layer is as tall as a fourteen-story building! The second
layer is the canopy layer. The canopy layer is very noisy.
Some animals live there without ever touching the floor. The
third layer is the understory. The understory is very dark and
shadowy. Some trees in the understory are fifteen feet tall.
The forth layer is the forest floor. The forest floor is very dark
and quiet. There are rotten leaves in the forest floor. The rainforest is full of life.

RAINFOREST PLANTS
Did you know that more than half of all the different
plants on the earth grow in the rainforest? I will be talking
about my favorite plant in the rainforest, the Tropical
Pitch Plant. The Tropical Pitcher Plant is very slippery.
They catch insects very easily. Did you know that the
Tropical pitcher plant can hold half a gallon of water!
The insects drown in the water and the plant eats it!
AWESOME that is so cool!
4 RAINFOREST ANIMALS
There are many animals that live in the rainforest. I will be telling you about sloths. Sloths
live in South America and also in them
canopy/understory layer of the rainforest.
Also, sloths are prey to predators like jaguars, harp eagles, and humans. One interesting fact is the sloths can take about 1 hour to
come down the tree. Also, did you know that
the sloths claws can not hurt you.
Because there claws are for
trees. One last interesting fact is the
sloths only eat leaves.AWESOME! I
learned some thing new!

5 PEOPLE OF THE RAINFOREST
There are unique people in the rainforest! The first people I will be talking about is the Mbuti people. The Mbuti
people live in Africa. They called themselves “children
of the rainforest”. Did you know that the little kids in the
rainforest know how to hunt? Also, there are Yanomani
people. The Yanomani people huts are bigger than the
Mbuti. They both live in the rainforest. Also, did you
know that they hunt with the same weapons? The Mbuti
people hunt antelopes, forest hogs, buffalo, elephants,
and monkeys. The Yanomami people grow food. They
grow bananas, yams, and sweet potatoes. WOW! I
learned a lot about people in the rainforest!

GIFTS OF THE
RAINFOREST
Could you imagine a world without food, coffee, and medicine?
Well, did you know that some of the food, wood, medicine, and
rubber we use is from the rainforest? One of the flowers is
called rosy periwinkle that we get our medicine from. This medicine grows in Africa. This flowers helps people who have cancer. Your desk and gum are from the rainforest too! Cocoa
beads is for chocolate and that is from the rainforest. WOW, I
did not know that everything come from the rainforest!

SAVING THE
RAINFOREST
In the rainforest trees are getting cut down. Did you
know that if you cut down the trees the animals and
plants will die? If you cut down the trees some animals
could even go extinct? Extinct means there is no more
of that animal. WOW, I will not cut down trees so that
the animals can live!
