FRANCES A. HUME, SPHR Hume ‘n Resources Frances A. Hume, SPHR, is President of Hume ‘n Resources, an executive coaching and strategic human resources consulting firm located in Park City, Utah. No stranger to complicated employer issues, Frances is a human resource veteran of 29 years. After moving to Utah from Washington, D.C. and leaving the FBI as a paralegal, she started her HR career at Valtek International (now Flowserve) in 1978. She worked her way up the ladder attaining the position of Corporate HR Director. In 1994, she ‘moved across the street’ and spent the next four years with Nature’s Way as Executive Vice-President of Strategic Development and Vice-President of Human Resources. In 1998, she fulfilled a life-long goal by starting her own consulting business -- “Hume ‘n Resources.” In this capacity, she has been able to assist numerous companies and individuals with creative and strategic business solutions to complicated interpersonal and employee-related issues. As an instructor and speaker, Frances has developed and taught a variety of leadership, management, and business courses and seminars for universities, companies, and conferences around the world. She is an adjunct professor for University of Utah, Utah Valley State College and Mountainland Applied Technology College. She loves teaching HR management classes, especially when they help HR peers prepare for the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) exam. She is certified through HRCI as a Senior Professional in Human Resource (SPHR). An avid HR volunteer, Frances has served in numerous Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) positions at the national, regional, state, and chapter levels for over 28 years. She is currently serving as Secretary/Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), the credentialing body of SHRM. She is also a past member of the SHRM Learning System Review Committee. She completed service as a member of the HRCI Western Region Item Writing Panel (wrote exam questions for the PHR and SPHR Certification Exams) and on the SHRM Area VI Board as Secretary/Treasurer. She is a past SHRM Utah State Council Director and a past president of the Human Resource Association of Central Utah (HRACU). She was recognized by HRACU with the Presidential Award for Excellence. She was appointed by the Governor of Utah to serve on the Executive and Judicial Compensation Committee for eight years. One of her volunteer highlights was at the Ski Jump Venue during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. As a life-long learner, Frances returned to school and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Utah with her MBA degree in 2004. She is in the process of writing a leadership book and enjoys snow skiing, snowmobiling, photography, traveling, and camping with her husband Gary and spoiling their eleven grandchildren.
