The TryMed tripod (“Brachystepper") is a simple piece of equipment without electronic parts designed for the stabilisation of a transrectal ultrasonographic sensing probe and allowing defined single-step movements in an anteroposterioric direction, as well as fine spatial positioning, of the probe. It is delivered completely assembled and tested. Due to its mechanical design, no calibration or other care is needed except standard cleaning and surface disinfections; a reusable puncture template grid can be sterilised in an autoclave. The tripod, along with other instruments (isotope application equipment, ultrasounds, ultrasonographic sensors), serves in performing sonographically-controlled prostate carcinoma brachytherapy. The brachytherapy procedure depends on the type of isotope radiation source and is not part of this instruction. These instruments have no impact on tripod manipulation because the purpose of the tripod is to provide a stable fixing of the transrectal probe in a position selected by the physician.
