He Is Risen! ~ We Will Rise
He Lives ~ We Live
Things I’ve never heard
people say about prayer:
“I never get distracted
when I pray.”
“I need to cut back on
my prayer time; it’s interfering with my life.”
“I’ve never fallen asleep when I’m praying.”
The other day I googled prayer and got 83,600,000 sites. Then I googled
how to pray and got 165,000,000... That’s right 165 MILLION. So guess
what, you’re not alone if you struggle with prayer. I still, at times,
experience difficulty in praying and often without even realizing it. To be
perfectly honest, I still don’t pray enough. Sometimes I get distracted in the
middle of prayer, sometimes I lose track of what exactly it is that I’m
praying for, and other times I get downright sleepy during prayer.
Fortunately for us God has perfect hearing. He hears my whispers and my
unfinished prayers. He knows what would have been said. He hears my
prayers, even when they come without words. He deciphers the prayers that
I seem to have no language for. He hears the prayers I sing to Him during
worship on Sunday mornings. He hears the prayer of longing to become a
better pray-er.
It’s not the perfect prayer God longs for. It’s our attention to our intention,
as we seek Him and His Will in all things. God’s love language is quality
time. Here are a few verses that may bless you in your prayers... Romans
8:26 “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know
what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through
wordless groans.” Isaiah 30:18 “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;
therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of
justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!” Psalm 63: 4 & 5 “I will praise
you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be
fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will
praise you.”
During this season of Lent, let our hearts be focused, with added attention
given to our daily prayer life and listening, as we seek to hear all that He
has to say to each one of us.

Giving Expresses Our Gratitude
An old legend tells of a man visiting Africa who was amazed to find
boys playing marbles with diamonds. The boys, however, found
nothing unusual in this; this was the only kind of stones they knew.
There is a danger that the familiar can
lose its value. What wonderful truths we
hear each Sunday from our pulpit! What
gracious gifts we regularly receive
through the Sacraments! What a treasure
is the Word of God which we own and
can read whenever we wish! What value
do we place on these things of God?
How long can God trust us as stewards
of His Gospel if we treat it so lightly and
neglect the opportunities to spread His Word?
In the New Testament, hardly any facet of the Christian life is
discussed more often than that of giving. The Bible teaches that it is
the obligation of all, the rich and the poor, to give regularly,
proportionately, and in the name of and for the sake of our Lord Jesus
Christ. The Bible teaches that giving is an act of faith, of
thanksgiving, and of gratitude for our God and for what He has done
for us. Scripture tells us that “God loves a cheerful giver” (2
Corinthians 9:7) and that He wants us to excel in this grace of giving
(2 Corinthians 8:7). Thankfully, God tells us that He will make it
possible for us to give, when He tells us “And God is able to make all
grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all
times, you may abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).
Let us pray, then, that we would once again comprehend the sacrifice
that has won our eternal salvation. Let us tell others of the wonderful
hope and love that can be found in Jesus. Let us place our gifts in the
offering plates as though they were the nail-scarred hands of Jesus.
Blessings on your stewardship journey!
