MOLDAW RESIDENTS SELECTED TO
PARTICIPATE IN NEW SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY
PILOT PROGRAM LAUNCH
For several months now, there has been a growing trend in Silicon Valley as
companies are developing new apps with a specific focus on senior care. In order to
plan for the “silver tsunami” that is right around the corner, many businesses in the
area and highlevel executives, particularly from the sandwich generation, have been
motivated to take matters into their own hands. They are helping launch new apps or
partnering with large healthcare technology firms in order to simplify processes and
meet the needs of older adults. Cubigo, Inc., is among such companies and involves
an open, independent, webbased platform with apps designed to help seniors have
more control over their needs and to maintain their independence longer. About a
dozen residents at the innovative retirement community in Palo Alto, Moldaw
Residences, were part of a six-week pilot project, and they were testing out the
Cubigo software on their personal smartphones, iPads and other devices of their
choice. The software involves Cubes™ or small applications that can be added and
adapted to the user-friendly dashboard to encompass individual needs.
“For me, it has been for the better.”, said Carole Stein, Moldaw resident. “Apps for driving
services like Uber, for example, have allowed me to stay connected in ways I didn’t think I
could after I gave up driving. I am able to get out and enjoy life right in front of me because
a car is waiting for me to do so in a matter of minutes.”

CASABLANCA
In this Oscar-winning classic, American expat Rick Blaine
(Humphrey Bogart) plays host to gamblers, thieves and refugees
at his Moroccan nightclub during World War II ... but he never
expected Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) - the woman who broke his heart
-- to walk through that door. Ilsa hopes that with Rick’s help, she
and her fugitive husband (Paul Henreid) can escape to America.
But the spark that brought the lovers together still burns brightly.
Cast: Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid
Al Leveckis, Chief Operations Officer of Cubigo, Inc. says “Our goal ultimately is
to enhance the lives of older adults through technology and empower them to do
more for themselves in the exact way they want things done. This p latform i s centered
on the user’s personalization to select apps for precisely what they need during
day-to-day life at the retirement community. From meal reservations to maintenance
requests to health-focused needs like weight-monitoring or medication reminders, apps
cover a wide variety of services. We help integrate the services and data so that individuals
stay connected and supported.”
The main objectives of the project are simplification and customization. There are three
main pillars: Cubigo Social, which can involve storing contacts, updating shared calendars
with event reminders as well as messaging and making calls among other options; Cubigo
Care, which provides insight for self-care through medication plans and reminders and
even links to activity sensors or weight scales; and Cubigo Services, which assists with
basic comfort through specific products, meal deliveries, order history and news sources
presented in a simple, consistent format without advertising.
LV MAR
Located in the midst of beautiful downtown Redwood
City, and the next evolution of Chef Manuel’s vision,
a casual, up-scale experience, LV Mar is where
comfortable atmosphere, and the finest in gastronomy
meet. It’s all about the highest-quality ingredients,
the most refined techniques, and a unpretentious
environment where satisfied guests are not just
clients ... they’re a part of the recipe. The atmosphere is
modern-minimalist with white walls and tablecloths,
aquamarine accents and chrome and glass light
fixtures. The only artwork is a bright triptych opposite
the large bar, which seats at least a dozen and has a
nook with low tables perfect for drinks and appetizers.
Always inventing, while respecting traditional palettes,
Chef Manuel creates menus that are new, fresh, and
yet familiar. Continuing his long list of successes that
includes properties like Bucca Giovanni, One Market,
The Left Bank, and (his own) La Viga, Chef would
like to invite you to LV Mar... the same passions, the
same expertise, taken to a new level. The Ceviche
de CamarÓn had nice, fat pieces of shrimp and a
pleasant heat tempered by the addition of sweet
potato and served with addictive coconut chips. A
fairly traditional and scrumptious queso fundido was
topped with wild mushrooms and served with fresh,
handmade blue corn tortillas. (The type of corn may
change with the season.) The modestly priced wine list
features wines almost exclusively from Spain and South
America. Although LV Mar doesn’t have a full liquor
license yet, it offers some cocktails made with spirit
substitutes -- agave, rum like and vodka like “wines”
that are fermented rather than distilled, with lower
alcohol levels. Most drinks are on the fruity side, but
the Rosa Mexicano, made with muddled prickly pear,
and has a nice balance of tart and sweet. The cocktails
make a fine complement too many of the appetizers.
What are some of the more popular dishes at LV Mar,
include the crusted halibut, grass-fed ribeye, octopus,
scallop and halibut mixed ceviche, and duck leg stew
on corn masa cups. LV Mar serves quality food and
provides top-notch service. In terms of ambiance,
LV Mar is “casual and elegant,” Got children? No
problem. LV Mar is a family-oriented restaurant,
providing a kids’ menu. Please come visit us during
