Indian Runners(Domestic Duck)
The Indian Runner is a very busy duck, great for the back yard.
They love snails and slugs and are one of the best forms of organic pest control.
They enjoy splashing about in water, but are more likely to be preoccupied in
running around looking for worms, slugs and even catching flies.
They are predominantly kept for eggs: laying well over 200 per year.
They lay an egg varying between white, off white and pale green.
They appreciate open spaces but are happy in gardens
and make much less noise than call ducks.
They cannot fly, the females quack and the males have a hoarse whisper.
We love these ducks each having their own character they provide great
amusement in the garden and never fail to entertain.
They make great pets, a firm favourite with our children.
The ducks vary in weight between 1.4 and 2.3 kg (3-5 lbs).
Their height (from crown to tail tip) ranges from 50 cm (20 inches) in small
females to about 76 cm (30 inches) in the taller males.
