Subject: Invitation to Participate in the Inaugural Edition of the RK Laxman
Memorial Literary Conclave Being Conducted on 27th March, 2015
Dear Principal,
It gives me immense pleasure in inviting your school to participate in the 1st edition
of the RK Laxman Memorial Literary Conclave to be held on 27th March, 2015 at SNBP
International School.
I hope you will get your students to participate in this unique event that is being
organized at SNBP International School in association with MUN World India. We
request you to kindly grace this occasion with you presence as well as the
participation of your esteemed institution in the various literary events being
organized. Please fill up the attached form and return the same by 10th March, 2015
to our school address.
There are a variety of literary events being organized grade wise as a part of the RK
Laxman Memorial Literary Conclave. The details for all the events have been
provided along with the invitation letter. The theme for this edition’s RK Laxman
Memorial Literary Conclave is ‘National Pride and Diversity’.
We hope to see the students of your institution participating in this event as we feel
that this will be a great opportunity for them to further develop their communication
skills, express themselves and furthermore broaden their outlooks via a range of
media.

RK Laxman Memorial Literary Conclave Events
1. Story Telling Competition (Grades 1 and 2)
 This competition shall have 1 participant per institution participating
individually
 Students have to narrate an interesting story (can be based on any historical
incident related to India) for a maximum period of 3 minutes
 It is advised to memorize the story and read without a paper. Referring to a
paper once in a while is alright.
 Participants are not supposed to make use of gestures while narrating the
story. They will not be marked for them. They are going to be marked on the
following criteria – facial expressions, memorization ability, eloquence, voice
modulation, presentation, delivery and poise.
 All stories must be in English only.
2. Mono Acting Competition (Grades 3 and 4)
 This competition shall have 2 participants per institution participating as a
team performing a certain skit.
 Students have to enact an interesting skit/scene/incident as deemed based
on the theme ‘Actions that Changed India’
 The skit should not be for any period longer than 4 minutes for any team. No
usage of props shall be allowed
 It is advised to memorize the story and read without a paper. Referring to a
paper once in a while is alright.
 Participants are going to be marked on the following criteria – gesticulation,
facial expressions, memorization ability, eloquence, voice modulation,
enunciation, presentation, delivery and poise.
 All skits must be in English only.
3. Speech Recitation Competition (Grades 5 and 6)
 This competition shall have 1 participant per institution participating
individually
 Students have to recite a famous speech by a great Indian leader for a
maximum period of 3 minutes. It is alright if the speech is an abridged
version. E.g. ‘Tryst with Destiny’ speech made by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on
night India received independence.
 It is advised that students do not use a paper for reference. Marks will be
deducted for the same.
 Participants are not going to be marked for acting or making various gestures
during the course of their speech. They are going to be marked only on the
following criteria – facial expressions, eloquence, voice modulation,
presentation, delivery and poise.
 All speeches must be in English only.
4. Indian Resolution Conclave (Grades 7 and 8)
 This competition shall have 2 participants per institution participating as a
team
 Every team from each institution will be allotted a particular Indian state
which they will represent.
 The team has to prepare a 3 minute Powerpoint presentation in relation to
the biggest issues that the state is facing and suggest solutions for the same.
 The presentations basically have to start with an introduction to the state (23 slides), then cover the biggest problems the state is facing (2-3 slides) and
then finally highlight the solution to the problem (4-5 slides)
 The presentation about the state must have a maximum of 10 slides covering
the aspects as mentioned above. Any additional information is also welcome
but core marks will be given for the points mentioned above.
 It is suggested that students try and pick up various problems which are
unique to the state.
 Participants are going to be marked on the following criteria – presentation,
facial expressions, presentation quality, eloquence, voice modulation,
delivery and poise.
 All presentations must be in English only.
5. Group Discussion Competition (Grades 9 and 10)
 This competition shall have 2 participants per institution participating
individually
 In this competition, students will be made to sit in semi circular manner in
groups of 6-8 students each.
 A topic will be given on the spot and they will have to sit and discuss the
causes, effects and solutions for the issue with other group members. This
group discussion is on similar lines to corporate group discussions.
 Each group discussion goes on for 2-3 minutes in which every participant
present his opinions on the topic while trying to collectively come up with a
solution along with the other group members.
 Participants are going to be marked on the following criteria – depth of ideas
presented, diction, pro-active participation, group participation and logical
flow of statements.
 All group discussions are in English only. Further information to the group
discussion will be explained to the participants on the spot. No prior
preparation is required for the event.
6. Frank Anthony Memorial Style Debate (Grades 11 and 12)
 This competition shall have 2 participants per institution participating as a
team
 The topic and rules of the debate shall be given on the spot. Contestants will
be given one hour for preparation.
 The marking criteria shall also be divulged on the spot itself.
