NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy was held this week for our students in Years 3 and 5. The
national testing program is one component of our assessment schedule. This together with a range of other assessment
practices throughout the year builds a detailed picture of your child’s progress, which in turn informs teaching practice.
MOTHERS’ DAY STALL
Many thanks to our PTFA for once again organising a terrific Mother’s Day Stall. We greatly appreciate their time and
effort in providing the opportunity for children to purchase that special something for Mum or a special person in their life.
WORKING BEE

On Saturday 23 May we are having a working bee to give our grounds a general tidy up. I know our Buildings and

I often receive positive comments about our grounds from visitors and this is due to the wonderful efforts of parents, staff
and students over the years.

What an impressive performance by our students last week at the District Athletics competition and thank you to Mr E and

their performances of ‘The Pirates of the Curry Bean’
rd
that will be staged on Thursday September 3 and

Friday September 4 this year at Karralyka Theatre,
Mines Road, East Ringwood.
As you are no doubt aware, a great deal of work goes
into a production and each staff member is involved in
some way or other. However we need parent helpers as
well. If you would like to assist with props/set
preparation, costumes, makeup, choreography or
transport of props then please complete the tear off slip
in this newsletter and return to the office.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS
This year the District Athletics Sports were in the fourth
week of Term 2. There were lots of trials and practice
leading up to the athletics sports. Students in Grades 36 were taught the different athletics events during their
P.E lessons and from these performances a selected
few were asked to trial during recess and lunch times
from which our athletics team was chosen.

Bakers Delight Mountain Gate
Don't forget to mention Mountain Gate Primary School
when you make any purchase at Bakers Delight
Mountain Gate. 5% of every purchase is donated back
to the school.
So on Thursday 7 of May 63 students from Grades 3 –
6 represented Mountain Gate at the District Athletics at
the Knox Athletics Track. We started the day really
strong with some outstanding performances in the field
events putting us in third place. The students showed
intense determination in the track events and kept us in
the hunt. Our relays were very impressive with all teams
having clean baton changes and this made the
difference. It was a fantastic day for the ‘Gaters’ who put
th
in a huge effort. We ended the day finishing in 5 place
and everyone that participated should be extremely
proud of their efforts and behaviour throughout such a
long day of events.
