SUMMER ,SUMMER ALMOST HERE,
LETS GIVE SUMMER A BIG FAT CHEER
OF THIS FACT I ‘M VERY CLEAR
SUMMER IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR.
Exciting time is here again! It’s time for Summer Vacation and fun
filled activities.
HERE ARE A FEW SUGGESTIONS:
1. Read Books in English
Have fun reading or telling stories with your child. As
they read, let them point to the pictures and talk about
what is happening to the characters and which character
he or she likes best. Children learn by example. Read along
with
your
child.
Be
sure
to
read
with
lots
of
enthusiasm!!Create a special place for your child to read
that is well lit and comfortable.
2. Set a family “Game Night.”
It's a great way to break up the monotony of the
routines. Family time should be fun. It is fun playing
Board Games.
Board Games- Chinese Checkers, Scrabble, Ludo and
Snakes and Ladders.
3. Watch TV along with your child
Television can be instructive and entertaining for children of all ages, and can
promote positive aspects of social behavior such as sharing, good manners, and
cooperating with others. In addition, quality programming should spur a child's
curiosity and eagerness to learn. You can prescreen videos—and you can even
prescreen TV shows by reviewing them before letting your child watch them.
But you can't properly monitor children's TV programs unless you at least
occasionally watch the same TV shows or videos that your child watches.
4. Go Play Outside!
Kids of all ages can learn a lot about their
connection to the natural world. By exploring what's
around them, kids begin to develop investigative
skills which will help them later when they have to
grasp many different science and math concepts.
Hide-and-seek, camouflage, and blindfold walks are
some good traditional games you can play with your kids.
5. Caring for the environment
Set an example to your kid by taking care of plants and animals around you. You
along with your kid can plant a sapling and take good care of it. Keep a bowl of
fresh water every day for birds and animals to quench their thirst in the
scorching heat.
7. REVISE all the work done in class. You can find worksheets of
Literacy and Hindi attached in the almanac. Kindly send all the
completed worksheets on JULY 1, 2015.
If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach
the way they learn. The theory of multiple intelligences posits
that children have differing levels of eight different types of
intelligence. Every child has at least one type of intelligence
that is the strongest, and teaching to those strengths can help
students to be more successful. So we have planned a few
activities for our children that cater to the Eight Multiple
Intelligences. Kindly engage the child in the given activities
during vacations. You will be able to help your ward succeed.
Linguistic children will enjoy…

Telling a story – Read or tell different stories to the child
(also mentioned in the Activity Calendar for June). By doing this you’re
helping your child to become familiar with sounds, words, language and the value of
books. This all builds your child’s early literacy skills, imaginative skills and helps
him/her go on to read successfully later in life. Try going through these links:


Talking to another person about a subject or object.

Bringing in an item for Show and Tell and talking about it.
Suggestion: Let the child choose any object of his/her choice. Talk to the child about
the same. Share some extra information related to that object. The child can then
present his/her Show and Tell on July 06, 2015.
Such children will discover while…

Putting together puzzles Let the child explore various kinds of
puzzles and work with child to make different things out of
them. Encourage them to talk about their work e.g. in the blocks
“that is a tall building, can you make one that is taller /
shorter, can you make a line of cars which is longer / shorter”.
In this way, child will be able to compare, sort and order objects
according to the given criteria e.g. tall short, big small etc.

Counting items in the room/utensils in the kitchen shelf/no. of cars in the parking area. You
can add on another activity to the counting by asking the child which colour car is parked
before white colour car etc. In this way you are making the child aware of the concept of
what comes after and before.
Children will connect to lessons by…

Using a drum to add emphasis to a story.

Tapping a foot or clapping hands to highlight an
action of the story.

Listening to quiet meditative music as the
children are preparing to hear a story/or when
learning something new.
Children will benefit from moving their body as they…

Learn and do sign language as they sing a song.

Make up dance movements to express the action in a story.

Play a game of charades using key actions to a story.

You can practice “ANIMAL YOGA” during the vacations. The
children on the holiday program will love to do this activity. Try going through
the given link:
Children will enjoy responding to what they have learned by…

Drawing a picture after hearing a story or learning something new.

Using crayons, felt, chalk, paint or clay to illustrate a story
they heard.

Closing their eyes and visualizing the story.

Acting out the story.

Art activities such as painting and play dough

Working with play money

Play a Pictionary-style game
Provide a plain sheet to the child and encourage him/her to draw his/her
favourite character in the story or illustrate his/her favourite scene from the
story etc. Send it to the class teacher after vacations on July 01, 2015 to
display it in the class.
Such children will desire to…
Work alone on a picture or puzzle or quietly

read a book. Let them give a chance to do so. It
will help in building up the concentration and
imaginative skills.

Tell someone quietly how they are feeling
and what you like to do.
It’s a good idea to have some personal time with your child and share
his/her feelings. During such discussions one discovers a new side of
the kids which strengthens the parent child bond.
Such children will talk about what they have learned by…

Telling others the story or the new alphabet letter/number.

Working as a group to create a picture or make up a story,
play.

Imagining another person’s feelings and talking about it.
Sensitize the child about feelings and emotions. Share with
them that we should respect other’s feelings too.

Work in a group of friends or family members to create something interesting.
Please refer to the activity mentioned in the calendar dated: 14.6.15/21.6.15 (Green
dinner/Yummy cookies). Let the child work in group with each other’s help. Have fun
while sharing it with friends/family members. Click a picture of your child with
his/her group members while doing this activity and share with his/her teacher
through e-mail by July 01, 2015. It will be fun sharing the pictures with his/her
classmates.
Naturalist children will enjoy…

Praying a prayer of thanks for things God has created.

Planting seeds and watching them grow. (Please refer to the Calendar attached)
 Categorizing species in the natural world
 Collecting items from nature: Take your child for a Nature
Walk. Let the child discover things around him/her. Give him/her
a bag to collect various items like dried leaves, flowers, shells,
twigs, feathers, pebbles etc. Send the “My Collection Bag” to
school on July 08, 2015.
 Math story problems featuring plants or animals
 Caring for small animals
NOTE:
Assign or make one wall or corner in the house
where you can display all the creative work
done by your child. Let the child keep/ display
whatever he/she creates in that corner. Acknowledge the effort of the child.
He/She will be proud to see his/her creations being admired by everyone.
