The 2015 MSA Formula,
Certified by FIA, Powered by Ford EcoBoost
We are delighted to present the MSA Formula – Cer9fied by FIA, Powered by Ford EcoBoost. The great news is that MSA Formula has generated such excitement and an9cipa9on that it has aGracted 12 quality teams, that all 32 cars have found buyers, and that the new championship is set to be a huge success. Ford has supported junior single-‐seater racing in Britain through financially challenging 9mes in recent years, and it is great to be able to look forward to a return to big grids, close compe99on and the emergence of some great new young driving talent. We believe this to be the most remarkable ini9a9ve in junior single-‐seater racing since the launch of the original Formula Ford in 1967, a concept which helped develop and mould the track careers of so many of motor racing’s great names. We are certain that MSA Formula is absolutely the right package to help set the young drivers of today on the path to similar glories through the FIA ladder of opportunity, of which this series is the first recognised step. Gerard Quinn, Head of Ford Racing in Europe

IN THE UK
Ford in single-seater racing
Launched in Britain in 1967, Formula Ford used a 1600 cc ‘Kent’ engine direct from the Ford range. The Formula allowed engineers to design their own steel spaceframe chassis to use with the engine, and launched the careers of many great motorsport engineers, technicians and teams. The Formula con9nued to flourish with large numbers of compe9tors producing worthy champions round the world. The closeness of the racing became a defining quality of Formula Ford, which has con9nued to this day. The 2012 car added the latest EcoBoost engine technology from Ford, whilst 2013 saw the addi9on of aerodynamic aids. This was in addi9on to the very latest safety standards. The 2015 MSA Formula – Cer9fied by FIA, Powered by Ford EcoBoost car is the culmina9on of these developments; a showcase for the latest Ford technology and one that enables Ford to con9nue to maintain its proud role as the breeding ground of champions. Regulations Overview
The Ford EcoBoost engine used in the MSA Formula represents the
very latest in technology, and shares its1600cc direct-injection turbo
format with other motorsport disciplines up to and including
Formula One.
Competitors must of course read the MSA
Formula regulations in full, but to
summarise some of the key points:
The 1.6-litre EcoBoost turbocharged power unit has had its
electronics remapped to develop the FIA F4 maximum of 160 PS and
is paired to a Formula Three specification six-speed sequential
gearbox. Front and rear aerodynamic wings, together with slick
Hankook tyres, provide young drivers with the most technically
advanced junior single-seater racing car in the world
– and an unrivalled learning experience.
•  Registered chassis only may compete in
the full Championship
•  Only sealed, leased engines to be used
•  One engine per chassis, per season
•  6 slicks allocated per event
•  Testing restriction – only permitted at
circuits after we’ve raced there
•  Three car per team maximum
Sophisticated on-board data logging and track mapping are
integrated into the car’s electronics to give race engineers the
ability to assess and analyse the car’s performance data.

FIA safety standards
The FIA’s regulations enforce a set of
standards which make F4 cars at least
as safe as a current Formula Three
chassis, compliant with FIA Article 277.
The Mygale F4 chassis design has been
crash-tested and witnessed by the FIA
and include the following safety
features:
Safety
What could be more important than safety in a racing car?
•  Front and rear carbon crash structures
•  Full-height cockpit side-impact
protection panels
•  FIA-specification headrest
This is why Ford Racing Europe embarked upon a 5 year project
with the FIA Institute and the MSA to develop a new set of
global safety standards specifically for junior single seat race
cars. The lessons learnt from this partnership have shaped the
safety concept for FIA Formula 4.
•  FIA-specification extractable seat
The Mygale chassis itself has passed all of the FIA’s latest
stringent Formula Three impact tests, proving the exceptional
strength inherent in modern carbon fibre construction.
•  MSA Driver Training Programme
•  Collapsible steering column
•  Wheel tethers

Costs
Technical specification
One of the chief attractions of MSA
Formula will be its remarkable value for
money. Not only has the cost of a new
chassis been kept to a minimum, careful
attention has been paid to the cost of
consumables and ease of repair. The
technical regulations provide strict
governance to ensure that a cap is kept on
running costs. MSA Formula will be the
only UK championship running to the FIA’s
mandated price cap system, enabling
affordable racing.
