Mississippi messenger SPRING 2015 Jerry Dennis is a vibrant young 6 year old who has a very strong love for God and is truly a walking miracle. His mother, Tammy, shares of a time when she was 3 months pregnant, she experienced a horrible relationship situation that almost lead to a miscarriage. Praise God, Jerry is alive and well and has a true desire to serve God with his life. As a single mom, Tammy often struggles financially, so to help save money for him for college she began to save loose change when he was a baby. One Sunday at church, Jerry learned of YWEA and A Heart for The Homeland. Jerry asked his mom many questions about it and she simply explained about the ministry opportunity to raise money for Israel, God’s chosen people. Jerry was so moved by what his mother was telling him he asked if he could tithe his college savings to give to YWEA! So far, Jerry has raised over $600 for Israel. Let’s get behind A Heart for the Homeland this year. If a 6 year old can hear the vision and give WE CAN TOO! June 3-5 - Camp Meeting June 8-12 - Teen Camp June 15-19 - Middle Camp June 22-26 - Primary Camp July 16-20 - Baltimore ICE August 3-7 - Teen Talent Cleveland, TN The YWEA deadline for State Recognition at Camp Meeting is May 15th. The YWEA giving deadline for A Heart for the Homeland is July 31st. From the Bishop’s Desk A Great Challenge is Facing the Church of God in Mississippi... MIP Graduates 2014-201 Drew Carr Larry Edwards Both churches and pastors are facing a crisis of faith and clarity! A poll from George Washington University (August, 2014) found that 70% of Americans believe the country (USA) is going in the wrong direction. Retired Admiral Vernon Clark, recently said, “Executive leadership is failing, not because they do not know what to do, but because they do not have the courage and moral integrity to do what is needed.” Admiral Clark, the son of a Pentecostal pastor, believes that the church in America is running “hallow”. Hallow means that we are not ready to do what must be done to fix the challenges and spiritual crisis among Christians. He added that Christian leaders (both clergy and laity) must have the clarity to know just who they are, and where they want to go with their life for Christ. Just what are the big challenges facing the Church of God in Mississippi? It is to show the courage, honesty, and diligence of faith to do the following: Keep Christ at the center of our calling. Renew the commitments to tithe to our local churches. Renewing the commitment to report faithfully The lack of growth in so many of our churches cries for an answer. Matthew 28:3 says, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you.” Pastors and church leaders, we hold a sacred trust. I pray that our resolve is stronger than ever to build great churches by leading with excellence and integrity. I am sure as you look at this issue of the Mississippi Messenger you will notice that there are fewer churches than before that are listed as NR=Not Reporting than in previous months. Also, I rejoice for the month of March that we have seen another great improvement in reducing the not reporting. I am so very proud of our great pastors who have encouraged their congregations to not only tithe and give but also to report and send the tithe of tithe to state and international offices. Please make this the last issue where we see churches listed as NR=Not Reporting. I also call for your support of Camp Meeting and our Summer Youth Camps. I am praying that we will see the greatest spiritual results in Camps that we have ever seen in Mississippi. Please make sure that the children and young people from your church are able to come to Youth Camps this summer.
