We will not have a spot selected for you, they are first come first serve. Each rack is designed to hold 6 bikes, 3 on each side. Each participant will receive a wrist band in their packet. YOU MUST have a wrist band to enter the transition area. You must wear your band during the race, you will not be allowed to leave transition with your bike after the race without a wristband, for security purposes. ALL participants must be checked in by 7:15am and racked in transition by 7:30am NO Exceptions! The transition area closes promptly at 7:30am. Rack your bike using your seat and make sure your gear is set up on the right side of your front wheel. The picture below shows a blue towel with the gear for the participant on the most left side of the rack. 5 Transition Area Bike Rack Restrooms There are public restrooms inside the ARCC as well as locker rooms with showers at the pool. Water Stations We will have water on the run course as well as near the transition area. You will have 2 opportunities to hydrate on the run course. The on-course water station is located at approximately the 1.2 mile mark. Runners will pass this location two times with the ability to get hydrated each time. There are no water stations on the bike course. 6 Water Station Location Pre-Race Meeting This will take place at 7:30am in front of the transition area. This is designed to give all racers last minute instructions for a safe and successful race. Please attend! University Bookstore Mt. St. Mary’s University Bookstore is open on Friday, April 24 until 5 p.m., and will not be open on Saturday, April 25. If you are interested in purchasing any Mount clothing, please adjust your schedules accordingly. Post-Race Meal Sandwiches, soft drinks and beer will be available for all race participants and volunteers following the race. Friends and family may bring their own food, and can find vending machines in the ARCC. The school cafeteria is located on the main side of campus in Patriot Hall. 7 Bib Number Bib numbers have been assigned to each participant and must be worn and visible on the bike and run course. You must have it on the front for the run segments and either front or back on the bike segment. You will not get a finishing time if you do not have your number at the finish line. Relay teams only need it for the runner. Timing This race is chip timed. You will be given your timing chip on the pool deck minutes before you swim. The chip must be worn low on the ankle and must have your bib/race number on the chip (see picture below). We will collect the chip from you at the finish line. Chips that are not returned will billed to you at a cost of $20 to replace the chip. Relay Teams Relay teams will be starting among the individual participants. The swimmer’s starting position is determined by the estimated swim finish time indicated during registration. The relay team hand-off from swim to bike must be inside the bike transition area and the timing chip must be handed off. Then the chip will again be handed off in the bike transition between the biker and the runner. If a 8 relay team crosses the finish line without their chip their time will not be captured. The runner must wear the race number (bib number). Start Time The Triathlon will begin at 8:00am on Saturday, April 25. We will sort the participants based on expected swim finish time and assign bib numbers in chronological order of start. Bib #1 would start first, with Bib #290 the last entrant into the swim portion. An approximate swim start list will be posted at the sign-in areas on Friday and Saturday. This should be used as a guideline, not a guarantee swim start time. Course Information, Maps & Rules Swim Format The swim is the first leg of the race and is held in the Mount’s heated indoor pool. Participants will swim 300 meters in a snake or serpentine style method. Swimmers will be ordered by swim time, with the fastest swimmer to enter the water first. Participants will enter the water in 15 second intervals, swimming "laps" to the end of the pool. Participants will swim to the end of one lane and back down the other side of that same lane, duck under the ropes and swim to the end of the next lane and back in the other side of that lane. This will be done until the swimmer reaches the other end of the pool. There will be a ladder at the end of the pool. Please time yourself at 300 Meters before the race so that you can estimate an accurate time. If you estimate your time too fast or too slow, it will hurt your overall time and the others around you. Your best time will come if you do not pass or get passed. If you are able to, please practice swimming underneath the lane lines at your own pool before race day 9 Swim Rules We will not allow walking, continual pushing of the pool floor or pulling on the ropes. Advancing in this manner will disqualify you from your event. If disqualified you will be allowed finish the race but your name will be pulled from the results. No Diving No walking or continual pushing off the pool floor No pulling on the ropes Swimmers must cross the timing mat, jump in the pool feet first then begin swimming Passing is allowed o Passing is allowed at the wall only. 10 o If you want to pass the swimmer in front of you please tap their feet. Swimmers must touch the wall at the end of each lap Flip turns are permitted No walking or continual pushing off the pool floor Bike Format This is a 12.8 mile course. The bike course is NOT closed to traffic. You must obey all traffic laws and use good judgment when racing on the course. We will mark the turns with signs and plan to have Frederick County Fire Police at the two major intersections of Old Frederick Road & Maryland Route 76 and Old Frederick Road & Maryland Route 77. WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO DRIVE THE BIKE COURSE to ensure you know where to turn. It is your responsibility to know the course. Bike Rules Helmets are required, with chin straps fastened, before you leave the transition area and kept fastened until you return to the transition area. A bike mount/dismount area will be marked near the transition area. Failure to mount/dismount at the appropriate location will result in a time penalty. We will be monitoring this and will disqualify anyone who is caught drafting. To avoid this please leave 3 bikes lengths between you and the person in front of you.
