Volume 6, Issue 4 Happenings MONROE COUNTY 4-H NEWSLETTER APRIL 2015 4-H Shooting Sports strives to enable young people aged 8 –18 years, their parents, and adult volunteers to become responsible, self-directed, and productive members of society via involvement in the shooting sports activity. The goal of the 4-H Shooting Sports Program is youth development. Through participation in firearm safety training and shooting sports activities, young men and women are given the opportunity to “learn by doing”. 4-H aged youth 8-18 (age as of January 1st) may join local 4-H Shooting Sports clubs, although participation in certain disciplines is limited to older 4-H’ers. Trained and certified adult leaders help train them in specific discipline areas and impart important life skills. All participants are required to have completed 8 hours of training each year in each discipline in which he/she is going to compete. Thus, for a 4-H’er to compete in 2 disciplines, he/she must have completed 16 hours of instruction and 2 hours of safety training through the county. 2015 Northeast District Shooting Sports Competition will be held Saturday, April 25 at the Whitetail Ridge Outdoor Shooting Range in Blue Springs, Miss.
