Our pots of Hair Moisturiser are pre-wash treatments for special effects. Take a
handful, plaster it all over dry hair, massage it in, sit there for up to twenty minutes
– read a book, wash the dishes, don’t waste it! – then rinse off, shampoo and
condition as well, if you feel the need. While you’re waiting for them to work, you
could read the ingredients lists; they are pretty impressive, full of herbal infusions,
fresh fruit and nutritious vegetables to restore your hair’s softness and shine. They
are particularly good for hair which you’ve messed up with chemical colours.
Resist the temptation to temporarily redeem your hair with a quick fix of even
more chemicals; get back to nature and use our lovely mixtures.
Hsuan Wen Hua
Feeds your hungry, out-of-condition hair
Apparently, when translated from the original Southern Amerindian
language, avocado means ‘testicle tree’. If you use your
imagination you can see what they mean, except that the
majority of testicles aren’t green, or quite that large. Anyway,
H’Suan Wen Hua is a superb pre-conditioner for rough, dry hair. It
contains quite a bit of mashed avocado (you’re never going to
think of avocados the same way, are you?) because they are
magnificently nutritious and softening for your hair. H’Suan Wen
Hua is entirely packed with nutritious hair softeners like watercress,
eggs and bananas. Added to those we have hair shiners like
rosemary, balsamic vinegar and an infusion of bay leaves. Use
it when you hair feels scruffy and undernourished.
“H'suan Wen Hua, should be called Rumplstilskin - turns straw
into gold”Debra Oliver, Gloucester.

Marilyn
Makes your blonde hair soft and shiny as spun flax
What can we say? When you think of a blonde, who springs to mind? Of
course, our Marilyn hair treatment is the exact opposite of bottle blonde;
chamomile, lemon and saffron make blonde hair brighter, but don’t expect
to wash this off and find a dramatic change in colour. What you will find is
softer hair, courtesy of the linseed mucilage, shinier hair, thanks to the fresh
organic lemon juice and if you use it regularly, lighter hair, owing to the two
different kinds of chamomile we use to make this pre-wash conditioner. If you
always wanted to be a ‘natural’ blonde, here’s how to go about it.
“My hair is blonde, but darkens quite a bit in the winter. Marilyn lightens and
brightens it so much that even my fiancé notices the difference. (This would
be the same fiancé who didn't notice when I had 4 inches cut off my hair). It
leaves my hair amazingly soft too, and doesn't weigh it down.” Sally Knowles.

Arabian Bright
The Strokes
Shine, softness and red glints for dark hair
Body, weight and smoothness for bouffy, flyaway hair
It was one of our proudest moments when we started to sell Lush
hennas in our Arabian shops. At Lush we like to take the finest Persian
henna and use our many years of experience of making natural hair
products to make hair treatments so fine that they even impress the
Persians. Arabian Bright is our exciting* pre-wash hair treatment which
uses henna for shine and red glints, olive oil for condition and exotic
essential oilsfor a fragrance like sweet Arabian incense. Use it before
a special occasion to create your own tale from the Arabian Nights.
*It’s exciting for people with dark hair who like to
make it red and shiny.
“Arabian Bright leaves my hair soft, shiny and wafting the most
delicious incensey scent. I can't stop moving my head around
after I've used it!” Ruth G, North Wales.

Fans of Cynthia Sylvia Stout Shampoo, head for the shop or pick up the
‘phone now. You’ll be wanting a few pots of The Strokes in stock. It has the
same delicious scent of stout, mixed with lemon, cognac and fresh herbs,
but even better than this, it has an even more intensive effect. It gives
body and weight to hair that tends to frizz up and fly off as soon as there
is a hint of mist in the air. Use The Strokes and now you too can use the
sauna and the steam room, you can go out on foggy days knowing that
your hair will no longer grow 200% in volume at the first sniff of moisture.
Unleash that hair! Free it from the shackles of clips, grips and scrunchies!
“If you have curly hair, buy this product. Don't ask questions, just do it.
You will never have seen your curls so soft and bouncy and unfrizzy as
they will be after using this product. Oh, and naturally it smells lovely
too.” Elle W. Norwich

Caca Marron
The shiny chestnut one
It’s chastening to think that before many of
our customers were born Mark was working
on developing and perfecting herbal hair
colours. As a trichologist he was never
happy about the amount of unpleasant
chemical matter which goes into hair dyes,
not even now they’ve been cleaned up a
lot. It was a happy day for Lush when we
grew large enough to buy a whole tonne of
Persian henna, the best available.
Sometimes it’s good to grow up to be a
slightly larger company; you can make
friends with your real suppliers and deal
with the growers instead of the agents - as
you keep your feet on the ground and
remember your roots. Talking of roots, real
hennas are much better for your head than
synthetic dyes. We call them Les Cacas
(Caca is French for poo) because they
don’t have any shit in them. Excuse our
language but the point is important. They
are also beautifully effective.
They varnish your hair, giving it volume,
colour and a stunning, glossy sheen. Try
ours and stun yourself (but only in a safe,
natural way.)
“Ooooh-les Cacas!! Don’t let the name put you off!! Is
like a beautiful veneer, leaving any hair luxurious,
shiny, and smelling like the 1001 nights of Sherezade!!
Must be tried, at least once!”
Alison F., Bath, England

Caca Marron is the chestnut henna for a
darker red glow, plus ground coffee for brown
glints and fresh lemon juice for shine. Caca
Marron will be noticed and admired, mark my
words, but it won’t give granny palpitations
(unless, like my granny, she thinks that any
woman who dyes her hair, gets her ears
pierced or wears patent leather shoes is on a
straight, short path to hell (apparently patent
leather shoes might reflect your knickers, or
worse)). Where were we? Oh yes, Caca
Marron gives a colour and shine like polished
conkers, plus strength and volume to floppy
hair by coating it with a layer of colour.
Please use it because it’s gorgeous.
“If you want to add a bit of excitement to your
brown hair, try this. It turns mud-brown hair
into a shimmering mass of auburn/chestnut
locks. It also helps to moisturise your hair so it
will be incredibly soft and well conditioned to
boot. I have never loved my hair so much as I
did after using this. Get some Caca and turn
your hair into your crowning glory!”

Ingredients: Red Henna (Lawsonia inermis), Cocoa
Butter (Theobroma cacao), Black Henna (Indigofera
tinctoria), Ground Coffee, Fresh Lemon Juice (Citrus
limonum), Irish Moss Powder (Chondrus crispus), Clove
Bud Oil (Eugenia caryophyllus), Perfume.
How To Use Les Cacas
Caca Noir
The deep blue-blackburgundy one
Caca Noir (as in black) has
loads of black henna in it; this is
the indigo dye traditionally used
in India to keep black hair shiny
and beautiful. Our Caca also
contains red henna to add gloss
and a hint of red if you want it.
After applying you can lease
the Caca to dry in the air for a
more blue-black colour or wrap
it in Clingfilm to keep it moist for
red glints. The reason we add
coca butter is that we’ve
discovered that it helps the
henna mixture to stick better to
the hair and give you a better
colour. The clove bud oil makes
it smell pleasurably spicy, so if
you’ve been put off by the pure
henna ‘mucking out at the
stables’ scent, think again.

Ingredients: Black Henna (Indigofera
tinctoria), Cocoa Butter (Theobroma
cacao), Red Henna (Lawsonia
inermis), Irish Moss Powder (Chondrus
crispus), Clove Bud Oil (Eugenia
caryophyllus), Perfume.
1. You will need rubber gloves, a clip to keep hair out of the way, a
comb, Clingfilm, dark coloured towels, a bain-marie or heat-proof
bowl in a saucepan and newspapers to cover the floor. Any
spillages on uncovered surfaces should be cleaned up
immediately.
2. Always carry out a strand test before a full head application.
Follow the instructions and remember that henna continues to
brighten your hair for a couple of hours after you’ve washed it off.
Previous chemical hair treatments will affect the finished result
particularly in the case of bleached or lightened hair or hair that has
lightened in the sun. A strand test is EXTRA IMPORTANT in these
cases.
3. Henna has a stunning effect on hair sprinkled with grey; the grey
bits will sparkle bright red amongst the darker hairs. If you’ve over
40% grey prepare for a very vibrant result and always include some
grey hair in your strand test.
4. Add boiling water to a small amount of Caca in a heat proof
bowl. When the mixture is bearably hot use rubber gloves to apply
to a section of hair approximately half an inch wide and leave for
the desired length of time (20 minutes to as long as you want we've been known to leave it on for six hours for an outstandingly
bright shine and strong colour). Then shampoo, rinse and dry the
hair. If the colour is what you want proceed with a full head
application.
5. Put your Caca into a heat resistant bowl or saucepan, cover with
boiling water, allow the hot water to soak through for a few
Caca Rouge
Caca Brun
The really red one
The subtle coffee
coloured one
Caca Rouge is the reddest henna,
not for those of a nervous
disposition, which gives a beautiful
sunset red glow to your hair,
especially when you’re standing in
the light of an actual sunset or
under one of those little halogen
spotlights you get in Lush shops. Test
first if you’re not certain this is what
you want, then when you’ve
decided, leave it on for a few hours,
wrapped in Clingfilm for the
brightest, shiniest hair colour you’ve
ever had,
scented with cloves, rosemary and
lemon (all of which add even more
to the shine). People may need
their sunglasses to protect them
from the glow.
“This is the most amazing hair colour
I’ve ever used, my hair seems to
change shades in different lights
and I get compliments every day
which is always a plus!” Emma,

Ingredients: Red Henna (Lawsonia inermis),
Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Fresh
Lemon Juice (Citrus limonum), Powdered
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), Clove
Bud Oil (Eugenia caryopyllus), Perfume.
Caca Brun is a subtler colour,
made with black and red
hennas and ground coffee to
help bring out a brown shine.
As well as giving you a lovely
deep brown colour and gloss,
Caca Brun also adds volume
to your hair and gives it a
spicy clove scent that lasts for
days. This is the Caca to turn
mousy brown hair a deep,
dark, silky coffee colour, the
kind that changes your hair’s
appearance so that people
won’t notice what you’ve just
done, just that it looks so
much better! This is the henna
for people with sensible jobs,
whose bosses get sniffy at
anything outrageous.

minutes (I take 20), then mix to the consistency of
unwhipped double cream. Place the bowl or saucepan into
a second saucepan containing hot water (or you cookery
types can use your bain-marie). Heat until the henna is
bearably hot to the touch. (The hotter the better for brighter
colour, but don’t burn your head!) Do not microwave it.
6. Wearing rubber gloves, apply henna thoroughly to clean,
dry hair, section by section, working from back to front.hour
for the best effect. If by any chance you don’t like the colour
(because you didn't do a strand test like we told you!) don’t
try to bleach it out because bleach opens the hair’s cuticles,
forcing the henna deeper in and making it harder to
remove. Henna can diminish the effect of perming solution
so if you want permed, hennaed hair, get the perm first and
apply the Caca later. Deeper colours can be built up by reapplications as often as you fancy. Using it for three days in
a row gives you a colour and shine that lasts for weeks.
7. Cover the roots first then apply to the ends (makes life
much easier).
8. Now wrap hair in Clingfilm for a redder look or
leaveunwrapped for a browner look.
9. Leave on for at least an hour for the best effect.
Deeper colours can be built up by re-applications as often
