Request for Proposals from Artists: Creation of the Mayor's Arts Award
Description
The Muncie Arts and Culture Council is seeking proposals from Muncie-area artists to create the award
for the Inaugural Mayors Arts Awards. This year, submissions must somehow incorporate glass.
The Mayor's Arts Award is the most prestigious honor conferred by the city of Muncie on an individual
artists, teachers, nonprofit organizations and patrons of the arts. Celebrating excellence in the arts, the
Mayor's Arts Award recognizes artists, educators, organizations and leaders who make positive
contributions to the arts in Muncie. A celebration reception will be held to honor and support these
distinguished artists and professionals on September 30, 2015.
The selected artist will create works of art that will be given to each of the Mayor's Arts Award winners at
the celebration event. We will need nine (9) identical total awards. One award will be kept in the Mayor's
office at City Hall to maintain an archive of each year’s award, and the remaining awards will be given to
winners. In 2015, in recognition of Muncie’s Sesquicentennial, submissions must somehow incorporate
glass. The 2015 awards are to be no larger than 12” x 12” x 12” (The award can be a free standing object,
a wall hanging, etc.)
Timeline and Compensation
Compensation for the awards: $6,500.00
Payable: 50% deposit upon signing of a contract, 50% upon satisfactory completion of work
(All costs to prepare the awards including the application of the name of the award and name of the
awardee will be borne by the artist. There will be no other compensation for materials or time.)
May 15, 2015: Proposals due to Muncie Arts and Culture Council (MACC)
May 29, 2015: Notification of Selected Artist
July 1, 2015: Prototype due to MACC
September 16, 2015: Awards produced; MACC supplies awardees’ names
September 23, 2015: Awards engraved with names of awardees’; complete and delivered to MACC

Proposal Instructions
To submit an application, please follow the instructions below:
1. Provide a concept for your proposed design including:
1. Artist’s name, address, phone number, email and date of proposal submission.
2. Concept sketches (essential) and a narrative description of the concept behind your
design. Be specific about the details of the materials and process to be used for the
prospective Mayor's Arts Award.
3. You may submit up to three (3) different designs.
2. Provide artist background Information, including:
1. Resume or CV limited to a maximum of 3 pages
2. Three images (prefer digital format) that show the scope and breadth of your work
(submitted on a CD, thumb drive, or by email)
Proposals are due by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Muncie Arts and Culture Council office:
125 E. Charles Street, Suite 202; Muncie, IN 47305. This is NOT a postmark deadline. Entries must be in
the possession of Muncie Arts and Culture Council by the deadline time and date. Late applications will
not be considered. There is no fee to apply.

The Mayor's Arts Award is Muncie's highest Award for the arts community. Celebrating excellence
in the arts, the Mayor's Arts Award recognizes artists, educators, organizations and leaders who make
positive contributions to the arts in Muncie. A celebration will be held to honor and support these amazing
individuals.
Nominations are sent to Muncie Arts and Culture Council by the community at large; anyone can
nominate an artist, leader, organization or business for an award in one of eight categories. From this
pool of nominees, a Selection Panel of community members representing the arts and business worlds
will select the official Mayor's Arts Award Winners. The Mayor's Arts Award winners will be
announced at the Mayor's Arts Award celebration, Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Minnetrista.
