Mundo Verde is an Expeditionary Learning school and D.C.’s first school dedicated to
both education for sustainability and Spanish-English biliteracy. Mundo Verde’s doors opened in August 2011,
and currently offers preschool through third grade (adding fourth grade in 2015) and will grow through fifth
grade. Mundo Verde promotes self​

curriculum utilizes the responsive classroom approach, which is based on the premise that children learn best

Job Description: ​
Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School is looking for an energetic, hard-working, and
caring professional to run the front desk! The School Receptionist position is critical to the operation of the
school and the duties are many and varied. This position is highly visible to parents and the broader
community and vital to the success of a positive experience for visitors. The following is a general list of the
responsibilities of the position. The School Receptionist reports to the Director of Operations. This is a
12-month position which is non-exempt and therefore eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair
Labor Standards Act.
Responsibilities:
Front Desk Management
●
Act as school’s receptionist, greet visitors and parents, respond to requests for information
●
Answer the phones and direct calls and messages to appropriate staff; check voicemails daily and as
needed
●
Help to keep the school secure, ensure the appropriate sign in/out protocols are followed and sign-in
logs are maintained, process ID’s as necessary
●
Maintain a safe lobby environment during arrival and dismissal
●
Accept de​
liveries, parent forms and mail and distribute appropriately
●
Maintain a clean, organized and welcoming physical space of front reception area
●
Process payments such as lunch, t-shirt sales, etc and reconcile as needed with the business
department
●
Develop, maintain and assume primary responsibility of systems for organization and operations of the
front desk
Data and Compliance Support
Attendance
●
Maintain daily attendance records relevant to the front desk such as late arrivals, early pick-ups during
the day program, and late pick ups from after school
●
Ensure attendance is taken by teachers daily
●
Help receive and track all messages related to attendance and update files daily in student information
system
●
Follow up with families as needed
Admissions and Registration
●
Answer questions related to waiting list for enrollment as directed
●
Provide information to new and prospective families
●
Support the collection of residency documentation and necessary follow up with families as directed
●
Support registration document collection and review as directed
●
Help maintain student records, both electronically and hard copy
Facilities and Operations Support
●
Create signs to inform parents of upcoming events and room usage
●
Update/maintain online School Calendar – internal & external
●
Inform families and visitors of room assignments relevant to them
●

Support translation of general notices and materials into Spanish as needed
Monitor use of front desk equipment, including copier and fax
Organize teacher work room and fill copy paper at the end of each shift
Support in the collection of lunch forms and lunch attendance collection as needed
School Support
Support the mission and philosophy of Mundo Verde to students and families
Help prepare mailings as needed
Serve as a general resource for Spanish-speaking families
Attend to students in need of assistance
Reinforce and remind students of school rules
Occasional duty, classroom, or field trip coverage as needed
Assist and support various special events and initiatives
As needed provide assistance to teams such as, but not limited to, operations, extended day,
management, development, communication, academics, etc.
Other projects as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications of an Ideal Candidate

BA or related experience preferred
●
Bilingual English/Spanish required
●
Highly professional appearance and demeanor as the first person the school community comes in
contact with at Mundo Verde
●
Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic school environment, multi task, prioritize and stay calm under
pressure

Experience working with children in a school setting preferred
●
Excellent communication - written and oral - skills

The position is based at 30 P Street NW
Employment subject to TB test, fingerprinting and background check
