Why dental treatment for children?
People often ignore milk teeth of their child thinking that they fall
off anyway. However milk teeth helps in eating, speaking, smiling
and most importantly keep the space for permanent teeth as
they come. Failure to maintain good oral health will affect
permanent teeth also as decay can spread from one tooth to
another. Hence children have to develop good dietary and
brushing habits.
What are the common dental problems in children?
Dental decay
Decay in both milk teeth and permanent teeth can start on
chewing surfaces as well as in between teeth. The chewing
surface of back teeth often has pits and grooves that retain
food that cannot be cleaned by brushing. Hence placement of a
suitable sealant will prevent food lodgement and hence decay.
Improper brushing, crooked teeth and sugar rich diet are
responsible for decay starting in between teeth. Fluoride
treatment, proper brushing techniques and diet counselling is
the key to prevent such decay.

Though gum diseases are not so common in young children, it is
essential to brush correctly and sometimes get professional
cleaning to maintain healthy gums.
Crooked teeth
Under or excess jaw growth are often detected in childhood
that can be corrected most of the times with growth
modification therapy. Also premature loss of milk teeth due to
decay or wrong eruption path of permanent teeth can lead to
crooked teeth. This leads to poor oral hygiene, looks and can
play havoc with the child's confidence. Braces treatment
provides simple answer to these problems and can greatly
improve the quality of life of the school children.

Timing of intervention is everything when we are dealing with
teeth position. Constant watch, timely treatment makes the
results more desirable. My dental plan has launched a juniors
plan to specifically address the issues with children and has
