STAND IN FAITH
God cares about you more than you do.
I remember a very challenging season some time ago when I woke up
feeling a sudden wave of anxiety over life and ministry. If you know
me, I’m a pretty positive person, sometimes too positive. =) No matter
how big the problems, I don’t lose sleep over them.
But this time, my worries and fears seem overwhelming to the point
of interfering with my life. For some unclear reasons, I just felt rather
hopeless and meaningless with life. Felt this way before? Is that a sign
of the midlife crisis? =)
Anyway, one day, as I was driving, I felt like heavens opened, and
God downloaded this verse from Psalms 40:2 – “He lifted me out of
the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and
gave me a firm place to stand.” In other translations, it says, “He lifted
me out of the pit of despair” (NLT). “He drew me up from the pit of
destruction” (ESV). “He plucked me out of a pit of confusion.” (ISV).
It says, “He gave me a firm place to stand” (NIV). “He made my steps
secure” (GW).
Wow! That simple verse became my life-saver during that season. I
wrote down in my journal, “What Satan meant for evil, God meant it
for good. He specialises in turning every evil for the good of those who
follow Him. No weapon formed against you today will prevail!!”
Beloved, there’s nothing you can do to make God love you more, and
there’s nothing you can do to cause Him to love you less. He loves
you because that’s not just what He does, but it’s who He is. You are
precious to God.
Some of you are going to sense the hand of God lifting you today. He
is going to pluck you out of the pit of confusion and despair and give
you a firm place to stand.

John 6: 35 - Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will
never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”
Observation
- Bread was the staple diet at that time, people ate it to live, and not just for pleasure.
- Jesus’s reference as “the bread of life” is contrasted to the miracle of 5 loaves
and 2 fishes (v9); He says that it is far more satisfying than physical bread, “he who
comes to me will never go hungry/thirsty” (v35).
- Jesus’s reference as “the bread of life” is contrasted to the manna that fed the
forefathers (v31); miraculous sustenance of the Israelites, but this miracle did not
keep their hearts from hardening / turning astray.
Application
Jesus did not declare that he HAD the Bread of eternal life, that we may come and
accept some aspect of truth or teaching and be saved; but he said that he himself IS
the Bread of Life, that unless he was broken for us, and we feed upon him alone, we
shall never be satisfied, let alone be saved.
Prayer
Dear God, my heart is prone to wander Lord, struggles to love you and looks for
satisfaction in so many other things. But Jesus, You are the Bread of Life, You are
the Living Water, You satisfy me in a manner no external circumstance or self effort
can. Jesus, thank you for being broken for me, that I may feed on you and be whole.
Amen!
