Recycling & Range Safety: The brass recycling bins from Griswold and 2 barrels from Stonington were sorted last week to go to the scrap yard. Special thanks to Venturing Crew 694 from Groton (including at least 3 MR&CG junior members) for the support, sorting through all the brass and removing the items that should not be there. During this work, a MAJOR SAFETY issue was discovered! While sorting through the brass we found at least 10 to 20 live .22 rounds and 40 to 50 .38 super cases with live primers. Recycling bins are for EMPTY BRASS CASES ONLY. Rounds that fail to fire (for whatever reason) go in the special RED "live round" containers on every range. Please ensure that NO LIVE AMMO is placed in any recycling container. Work Hours: During the Work Hours year November 1, 2013, to October 31, 2014, 78 members reported work hours totaling 697 hours. This includes several life members and committee chairmen (neither category has a work hours requirement) and also includes several members who exceeded the required 8 hours but continued to report. 28 Regular Members met or exceeded the 8 hour annual requirement. Thank you for your generosity. Please help us keep an accurate count of work hours by completing a work hours slip for the time you donate. Each regular member (including spouses on a family membership, but not juniors) are required to complete 8 work hours per year. Suggested work lists are on the web site, but are not all inclusive. Club members voted to discontinue awarding work hours for attending the monthly meeting approximately two years ago. Work hours are to be completed by the end of October each year. Members that do not complete their annual work hours will be assessed a membership surcharge on their membership renewal notice for the next year. Junior Shooting Program: Rifle and Pistol practice is Sunday nights 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Contact Jim Gauthier at (860) 884-4795 or [email protected] for more info. Range Ramblings... “ All we need now is the Benny Hill soundtrack ” Chris McVeigh - commenting on the hilarity of watching dogs chase a wounded pheasant through the brush. If you haven’t noticed, Chris McVeigh is big source of material… Any other submissions for Range Ramblings ?
